  • Mine does. and WOW, if ya know what I mean!
  • well, wolves eat it all the time, so i would say yes.
  • To an extent I'm pretty sure.
  • They can
  • Well wolves can, and they have some realations, so Im gonna say yes.
  • Sure they can and they will if you give them some. :-)
  • Yes, they can and so can people but I wouldn't recommend it.
  • they like to eat raw cats.
  • They prefer broiled. ;-)
  • Lordy no! Dogs have been cooking their meat for hundreds of thousands of years, their stomachs just can't candle raw meat anymore.
  • yes, so leave your meat out of the reach of your dog.
  • No. Raw meat could possibly contain parasites and E.coli or salmonella.
  • They prefer tennis balls or sticks. +4
  • Do you think somebody used to cook and feed dogs thousands of years ago?
  • Yes they can and do eat raw meat. If you do a search on the internet you will find there are many advocates of something called the BARF (Bones And Raw Food or Biologically Appropriate Raw Foods) diet which is a raw diet for pets. Raw veggies, raw meat. Anyone I know who has an animal on it raves about how healthy their dogs and cats are.
  • I think so
  • Not only they can, but they should!
  • Digestively....DOGS ARE WOLVES....CATS ARE LIONS, AND TIGERS...AND CHEETAHS....oh my! My dogs and cats have been on a Species Appropriate diet of Raw MEATS 80%, BONES 10% AND ORGANS 10% for over 15 months now...and while my Vet was not originally thrilled, their condition has changed HER mind 100%! She is DELIGHTED with their teeth, weight, coats, and over all health. Grant it, she makes less money off of MY animals now, but she doesn't seem to mind that at all! (I wasn't buying kibble from her..which she no longer carries!!! But because they are in better health) I save money not just at the Vets, but also on the food! Freecycle and Craigslist net me a good amount of FREE MEATS! Often freezer burned, which the dogs could care a less about that, (the cats are a bit more picky), and nutritionally, it is fine for them. I get free deer, elk, beef (grass raised the last haul!) chicken, pork, goat, lamb. I some times buy (on sale of course) Lamb necks, Pig necks, pig trotters, or anything else that is major marked down cheap! There are not always free organs, so I buy them liver, kidney...which is usually pretty cheap as a rule. I did get some free Pig lungs and trachea, (butchered that morning by a local pork plant and had been donated to a local EMT group for them to practice on...) which the dogs went nuts over...and the cats are not at all into! I also buy Raw Green Tripe in the winter...stinks (cow stomach) we feed that outside, it never enters the house...the dogs LOVE THAT...and oddly enough neither them or their breath smells at all after eating it! Old feed bill, including cat litter, was about $75 to $125. NOW it's more like (including cat litter) $35 to $65 a month...and they eat food they love that is BETTER for them! It's important to feed the bones and organs percentages not at every meal, but over the course of the week. RAW bones are good and safe....COOKED bones, ALL OF THEM...ARE DANGEROUS and should never be fed. http://www.skylarzack.com/rawfeeding.htm http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/ http://www.rawfeddogs.net/Recipes Dogs usually make the switch with ease. Cats can be a challenge AND YOU CAN NOT SAFELY "TOUGH LOVE" a cat into eating a raw diet...you just have to cope with presenting it to them, mince and mix with their regular feed for as long as it takes to get them on board with the idea. Dogs...you fed kibble yesterday..and today they only eat meats! Do NOT fail to check out the Yahoo Raw feeding group for excellent and knowledgeable support...they are a very large group...and some there have fed raw for 10, 25, 30 and at least one woman for 50 YEARS...they have collectively "seen it all" and will share what they have seen and learned over time! Hannah my SAR dog enjoying a free deer neck last spring, Patch got his turn after her...and Saylore when we got him in March with his first chicken leg..(Hannah praying we'll both be temporarily struck deaf and blind so she can steal his food...while Saylore shuns using a bowl..."I don't need no stinking bowl for this!"
  • sure. that's how they survive in the wild.
  • That's what they ate in the wild, before they were domesticated, as dogs don't have too much access to Coleman® stoves, nor do they know how to use one. +5
  • Dogs should only eat raw meat for total health...cooked meat may give them pancreatitis...which means they'll die...or become very sick...
  • Oh course they can, but they prefer raw meaty bones, which is what they are meant to eat, being canines, descendants of wolves. They can't easily digest any grains and even veggies and fruits don't get digested and utilized by them and often eating them will only lead to allergies. SO it's really most commercial dog food they shouldn't be eating. We feed a raw meaty bones diet, a biologically appropriate raw food diet to our dog. We've been feeding raw since the early 90s and the results, the health, teeth, coat, and lack of allergies are worth it. Even their stools are smaller and just dry up and crumble away in 1-2 days. They hardly smell at all, either :-) http://leerburg.com/feedingarawdiet.htm http://www.barfworld.com/.../...et_specific.shtml http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/
  • Absolutely! Our 5-month old Giant schnauzer girl eats raw and doing great - our vet could not be happier with her weight and shiny coat. We mix/grind larger quantities at once, grind beef hearts, cheap beef (ground beef, ragout cubes, or roasts), brains, and chicken whatever (breasts, thighs, stomachs, hearts, liver, necks and wings), bones and all (well ... chicken bones only). We add frozen or fresh carrots, peas, and green beans (grinding them will ensure that our little princess doesn't separate them from the meat), mix it all up with some sunflower or olive oil. I then make portions of reasonable size and freeze them. I use little zipper bags that I fill in, stack them up separating them by the plastic or foam trays that the meat came in, then take out each bag and defrost. You can use plastic containers from yogurt and cottage cheese, but they take longer to defrost than the flat ziplogs. We combine the meat mix with a spoonful of oil, a doze of Hocamix supplement, a raw egg at least once a day, some yogurt or cottage cheese, and about 20% of the quantity of carbs - cooked rice (brown or white), potatoes or oats. It may sound elaborate, but it's really not that bad. And no, neither I nor my husband work from home. We spend an hour or so on the weekend to prepare the meat mix - he grinds, I cut and package. I cook the rice every 3 to 5 days, or use left-over rice or potatoes, or use instant oats. With this system, preparing each meal is a question of 5 minutes. I let my dog watch me as I put it together and we make it a lesson in self restraint and delayed gratification. We use good quality kibble as treats, funnily enough ... She goes gaga for almonds and cream cheese. Ilona
  • It's their natural forage, Not only can they eat raw meat they can eat absolutely green rancid neat, My dog will dig up a nasty old soup bone every so often that is really disgusting. I think they have an enzyme that kills bacteria or something to be able to eat that stuff.
  • SURE, HELL YOU COULD EAT RAW MEAT IF IF WAS FRESH!
  • I don't know, I'm just gonna keep giving my dog dog food.
  • They can. They can also look up.
  • Yes. I heard it's healthier.
  • Raw meats 80%, raw bones 10% and raw organs 10% is what makes up a SPECIES APPROPRIATE DIET for dogs, cats and ferrets.... Dogs are DESIGNED DIGESTIVELY to eat nothing BUT a RAW DIET in the approximate percentages I've listed above. A Raw diet is adjustable according to YOUR dog's needs as to the best percentages AND we don't try to hit the percentages at every single meal, but over the course of each week/month.... Too much organ and your dog MAY get "cannon butt." Too much bone, will usually create a possible bit of constipation...but the right amount of bone firms up the stool nicely...even when you feed your organs! Dog's stomach acid is about 10 times stronger than ours...they do not get Salmonella...WE get Salmonella and since KIBBLE often has Salmonella present...the manufacturers issue recalls so that WE don't accidently touch the kibble, NOT wash our hands because after all, it's not raw CHICKEN (which is what most raw feeders start their dogs on! <wink>) and then touch our faces/mouths GET salmonella and then SUE THEM! ("They" assuredly do not want to just come out and warn the consumers that Salmonella OFTEN IS PRESENT IN THEIR PRODUCTS!) So...you've asked a great question...NOW do a little research on your own to satisfy your comfort levels...Feeding Raw is the BEST thing I've ever done for my dogs and cats... And it is less expensive than my old feed bill of kibble and canned, because I normally get a lot of FREE MEATS from both Freecycle and CraigsList! http://www.api4animals.org/facts.php?p=359&more=1 http://www.homevet.com/petcare/foodbook.html http://www.skylarzack.com/rawfeeding.htm http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/ http://www.rawfeddogs.net/Recipes Hannah and Patch each getting a turn on a beautiful meaty FREE deer neck last spring...and Saylore the Kitten, last March...right after he came home with his first ever RAW MEAL..a Chicken Leg...(Hannah praying WE'LL be temporarily struck deaf and blind so she can steal his dinner...While Saylore decided..."BOWL? I don't need no stinking bowl for this!"
