  • A divorce is the legal ending of a marriage in court, while an anullment is a judicial or ecclesiastical declaration that claims that the marriage never existed in the first place.
  • Also, there is a very BIG difference between an annulment granted by a court and one granted by your church. If granted by a court, you are no longer legally married. If granted by the church, then the church will allow you to legally remarry in the church or will recognize a subsequent, legal marriage. But the church does not have the authority to grant an annulment for "legal" purposes.

  • A divorce means a marriage occurred. An annulment says a marriage never happened. https://www.justia.com/family/divorce/docs/ending-a-marriage-faq.html
