Pushing themselves to their limit or stopping too abruptly. For example, you have to continue walking for awhile after an aggressive run/sprint - otherwise you'll become nauseous.

usually I fall down gasping for air before I throw up. And as long as I stay vertical w/ a can of Diet Coke I hardly ever puke

At a certain point, no matter how good the conditioning, if you exercise too much you will reach the vomit stage. Just the bodies reaction to over-doing it.

Essentially it's your body's way of telling you that you're doing it more harm than good. In a few sports this limit has to be reached in order to progress further.
