I don't. I had a severe case of pneumonia some years ago that unfortunately did some damage to my lungs and now if the water is too cold, it literally takes my breathe away. Panicking and not being able to breathe isn't worth it to me. I haven't gone swimming in a while because of it. I also don't want the lake monsters to get me.

Just jump in.

What I usually do, is I just run and jump into the water, without testing the temperature, first. If it is too cold I scream underwater, and by the time I come to the surface, the water is either "OK," or I get out, immediately. +5

plunge in quick

JUMP. Close my eyes, hold my breath, and just dive into the water. Going slow is waaay harder.
-
Quick as I can. Jump, dive or walk fast.
-
Cannonball. Whenever you aren't sure, cannonball.
-
Hopefully I see a rather large group of people around. I'll tease them and call them names. They give me a thumbing and throw me in the water afterward.
-
Jump around! (Jump! Jump!)
-
Slowly is torture. There's only one way, either get in quickly or get out.
-
I ease my way in until I am at neck level then I dip. I have never canon ball jumped.

take a flying leap
