The grocery store, like therapist said. I attribute it to impulse buying. I go to get a dozen eggs - then I see a quart of buttermilk and drop it in the cart thinking I'll make cornbread sometime. Oh, then as long as I'm here, I might as well get some biscuit mix, frozen TV dinners, bananas, canned soup and paper towels. So a shopping trip that I thought would cost me $1.59 ends up about $25. With department store shopping, it's just the opposite. Either I can't find what I want or if I do it's a cheap looking or non-brand name merchandise. Like in Wal-Mart, I went to get a new VCR - they don't have just VCR's anymore. I can get a combo DVD AND VCR and then it a brand like Goofman's. Who ever heard of that? If I'm gonna but electronics, I want a brand at least I've heard of like Sony or Toshiba.

Grocery store. I bring a shopping list with me to reduce impulse buying. OTOH the fact is there stores are designed to encourage impulsive shopping by how the shelves are shelved. For example most impulse buys are within easy reach of most shoppers.
