Hell, I even remember when his name was spelled with a C!
-
Yes, he was highly respected, a true journalist.
-
Sad to hear. He was a real icon in the industry. They don't make them like him anymore. He'll be missed for sure.
-
He was very respectable. I wonder if he would have survived this era of delving into everyone's personal lives and digging up mistresses, etc. to quash credibility. As far as I know, he was a good guy and told the truth.
-
I do remember that. What’s odd is that I just told my wife the news, and her response: “Sorry to say, but he’s someone that I wouldn’t have been sure wasn’t already dead.” What’s even odder is that I was forced to concur. Still, I do remember him, and he’ll certainly be missed.

I will never forget when President Kennedy was assassinated and he broke down when announcing his death. Best journalist by far.
-
Journalist as opposed to enteretainer. May he rest in peace.
-
I was just thinking as I heard the eulogies for him how pathetic some of the news coverage is today, how blatantly propaganda instead of news. Back in 1970, two nationwide surveys both showed him to be the most trusted person in the USA. Can you imagine that title going to a news anchor today?
-
Rest in peace Walter Cronkite; I remember when the news was slightly better, but I was born in 1992.
-
WTF is with all the Celebrity deaths? Don't get me wrong, Cronkite is the only one I'll miss, but still WTF?!?!?!
-
I remember. And I remember Walter, and David Brinkly and Chet Huntley. The news always has been the news, but back then, they didn't have near as many "feeds" to deal with (AP and UPI were about it, if I recall). Walter was one of the most respected men in the business. EVERYONE trusted him. And that's the way it was, June 17, 2009. ;-)
