  • Sounds like the check valve in the fuel system is leaking. This makes it take a while for the fuel pressure to build up enough to allow the engine to start. The check valve is normally in the fuel tank with the pump. Instead of turning the key and cranking for 5 seconds turn the key on, wait 2 seconds (don't crank), turn it off, do that 3 or 4 times, then try to start. This will prime the fuel system without running the starter.
