I think so.
-
Yes it is, even if you say "Please shut up" the person will hate you! How bout "I love you shut up" still doesn't work it works with this tho "Shut up and lets have sex"
-
It isn't an insult although it is rude and aggressive. It doesn't make whoever says it look good at all, it can be seen as pretty immature. Sometimes it is very, very justified though!
-
Yes. it is always rude, and rude is always an insult.
-
yeah it's pretty rude. maybe not an insult but rude all the same. +3
-
not if they are insulting you and you want them to shut up
-
No it just means you want someone to shut their mouth for whatever reason.
-
When someone says "Shut up" to you, do you feel insulted? I do. Edit: Unless it's one of those "oh, shut up" kind of "not really" "is that so" kind of comment.
-
its an attention getter. just to get their attention one has to say shut the F up. when they stop talking and you have their attention, then the rest of the language can be said.
-
somewhat
-
yes, there is no question about it. i would never say that to anyone unless i really wanted to offend them.
-
Depends on how many times something has already been said. Sometimes its a necessity.
-
yes.shut up
-
It is always an insult.....or a sign of a really juvenile person. Exception: "shut up!" spoken with a Valley Girl accent.
-
It's a rude way of asking someone to be quiet! It would be insulting to have someone say it to you!
-
Its an spite not an insult.
-
It's more of a command than an insult.
-
Sometimes It can sound rude, dependind on why you are telling a person to shut-up... If a person keeps running his mouth with nothing but nonsense words, then It will be Ok to tell that person to shut-up, It's common sense =)
-
Depends on the tone in which it was said.
-
I find it insulting. I ask my son not to tell anyone to 'shut up'. To me it sounds as though you do not care what the person has to say. It is also a more immature way of asking someone to stop talking.
-
If someone is telling you their lifestory it certainly is. If you say it because you dont believe them it obviously isnt.
-
Technically, it is a request or a demand. But, I could see where it could be an insult to a person because it shows a lack of respect.
-
only to sensitive ppl
-
Yes it is. +5
-
yeah i would say yes."shut up" and "be quiet" mean the same thing but then again they don't.
-
Yes..rude
-
I say it.. and I am not rude. It depends on why you are saying it. such as get out! it means the same if used the same way.. If you are just saying shut up because you don't want to hear what someone is saying then yes.. Just as if you really want someone to get out..
-
Depending on the tone and/or the manner in which it's being used it can easily come across as insulting. Nowadays people are using it as a slang term which isn't considered offensive, but a way of expressing disbelief.
-
No it's just either a sign of disrespect or just an instruction to be quickly quiet for an important reason or that the person being told to shut up is talking incessantly and annoying. So it can be insulting but is not an insult.
-
No. It is insulting but it is not an insult.
