  • True cinnamon is made from the bark of Cinnamomum verum. However, much of the stuff found on grocery store shelves in the United States is from Cinnamomum cassia which is considered by some to be less flavorful. The inner bark of some pine trees is edible as is the bark of willow, alder, hemlock, basswood and birch.
  • Some one once told me that pregnant women should be careful about eating slippery elm bark. ? Out here in southwersern US, Cotton Wood bark is used the same way Willow bark is elsewhere. Poplars an' Aspens are also in th' same family. And Ponderousa pine bark is used for food in a survival situation.
