Different circumstances. Booze was legal before prohibition - then it was taken away. If they legalized weed, then took it away, there might be an uprising.

because there is Alcohol which happens to be legal and thus a way to numb your senses without having to do it illegally...That could be one possible answer the many that are out there waiting to be discovered...

Because Temperance was the removal of something that the majority indulged in (alcohol), whereas the making of hemp illegal was at a time when the majority did not indulge in it. However there may be hope yet, as the reasoning behind the repeal (everyone's doing it anyway so why let organized crime reap all the profits) does also exist in the here and now regarding weed. Though one strike does exist against it, and that is that organized crime now has lobbyists working in Washington to keep it illegal. Hope this helps.

In one case something that was legal and enjoyed by the masses was taken away and in the other something that was never legal and while used by many it has always been on the fringe of acceptable in our society.+5
