We know from observation that the Moon to Earth distance varies between 356,500 km and 406,500 km. The average distance is 384,748 km.

From where I stand and watch the Moon. I can almost reach out and touch it!!
-
they say quarter of a million miles but it is actually 239,000 miles away.

Like was said in another post it is on an elliptical orbit making its distance vary. For those who dont quite understand Kilometers I wanted to post the the answer in miles as well. Between 221,600 - 252,950 miles. I also read something interesting about this subject, the moon is on an expanding orbit. NASA put a mirror on the surface when they were there and they bounce a Laser off it daily and they say it is steadily moving away from the earth nearly 2 inches a year. I don't know if this is some kind of cycle and it will come back at some point due to some weird gravitational force of another planet or the sun, but so far since 1969 it has only been moving away.

According to "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?" television show, its 240,000 miles away!
-
Off the top of my head its a bit over 350,000km. We can monitor the exact distance down to the millimeter with lasers tho. Do some research if you really want to know.
-
not sure but its probably pretty far
