  • The input shaft is the part of the transmission that transfers ('inputs') the torque from the engine into the transmission. The bearing is the part that supports the shaft in the transmission case and allows the shaft to turn freely. Replacing the bearing requires removing the transmission from the vehicle. The amount of work required to replace it once the transmission is out varies depending on the transmission design. Some come out quite easily, others require a lot of disassembly.
