I'd say the best thing is no eating. Give your body a rest. And then depending on why you vomited, start with light easily to digest things or things that don't upset, like drinking ginger ale or hot lemon water with mint in it. Then try some soda crackers, again, testing the 'waters'.

I was always told to drink broth and eat a couple of crackers.

nothing. at least for an hour. then try clear liquids. if you can keep that down, try a few crackers without salt.

I'd start very slowly with a few sips of flat ginger ale. If you keep that down, then I'd move on to a few saltine crackers later in the day.
