My husband's voice is the best instrument. (He was a recording artist at one time in his life, among his many, many careers.) Other than that, a cello is hauntingly beautiful. I also love the sound of someone who REALLY knows what they are doing on a piano!
-
flute, piano and guitar :)

I would agree with you - the sound of the cello does it for me - especially Elgar's cello concerto (1st movement) But there are other instruments that really work for me too - a well played oboe works, and at times a piano (depending on the music). Recently, I found that I fell in love with a particular drum sequence! Wow.. never done that before

I just love music in general. Sometimes I fell as if I can feel it in my bones,it just goes through my whole body.
-
Acoustic Guitar. I just love to hear slow, mellow music played on an acoustic guitar.
-
The Sax. Any kind. It's so intimate and romantic (I know that sounds cheesy). In my opinion, it's one of the most beautiful sounds in the world. Wait! One more! A '59 Gibson Les Paul guitar! Damn I wish I knew how to play it!
-
Violin if played well This is my all time favourite violin concerto. Especially the 2nd movement.

The Hurdy gurdy ... especially when played as part of Loreena McKennitt's band..! Ancient, yet moving...
-
I think a harp sounds beautiful.
-
I love the cello too - especially in Elgar's cello concerto - but I love other instruments, depending on the piece that is being played - eg, the oboe in Gabriel's theme (Morricone, from the Mission) - when I listen to that, I could just be in heaven! Then there is the flute - especially in Gluck's Dance of the Blessed Spirits - wow.. heavenly. Too many instruments to mention, I suppose!

Cello's are beautiful, I agree. I know a girl who plays the cello with such passion, and it sounds phenomenal! I would often get her to accompany when I sang. So the VOICE also does it for me, probably because there are so many diverse voices out there and what they sing connects with both my mind (the words) and heart, (the words and tune). Eva Cassidy Joss Stone Betty Carter (I haven't listened to her much, but Open The Door is haunting and great) Whitney Houston (and Charice Pempengco (16 yo) from the filipnis is great, inspired by Whitney) Colm Wilkinson Keb Mo (sure, he's not amazing, but his soul shines through). The ELECTRIC GUITAR is just aaaweesome, it rips, 'nuff said! The ACCOUSTIC GUITAR, when played by the likes of Tommy Emmanuel, sweeps you awaay! Beautiful, awesome, rockin', even! The PIANO, lyrical piano such as compositions by Yann Tiersen, and George Winston, sounds beautiful and mystyfing. Instruments that evoke all kinds of emotions in me and touch the soul and heal, are the ones I love.
