  • Our favorites are vinegar or baking soda. Don't mix unless you want to see some action. These are both nontoxic and mild narural cleaners. Something that is sold in paint stores is TSP - trisodium phosphate, a little stronger.
  • I usually clean crockery with water and vinegar and then a scrub with baking soda. But it does depend on what kinds of stains or dirt I have to work at.
  • I would ask the Community at "I Antique Online" http://www.iantiqueonline.com They have over 1800 members who buy, sell or collect antiques and art. You will get more specialized feedback this way.
  • If it has a salt glaze finish, I used greased lightening. It will take the hide off a hog. Or dirt of a crock as the case may be. Just don't use it if the crock has a painted design because it will take the paint off. I have also heard that if there is a lot of crazing, you can soak it in bleach and that will take out a lot of the staining that makes the crazing look so bad. I haven't personally tried that one yet.
