Meal replacements are meant to be just that meal replacements. The problem is many people drink them then eat something else because they aren't always very filling. Usually they are loaded with vitamins and minerals, and can be a waste if you get too much. Anything taken in excess will generally produce fat, unless it is calorie free like water. It is always best to get a real meal, but if you have to and you can control your hunger with just a shake, it is better than nothing.
