OR.... He stopped crying at seventy because he fell in love and remarried and was therefore no longer a widower. So maybe he was a widower for fifteen years?

The man was a widower for twenty five years, because he was five years older than his wife and she died at fifty. Which would make him fifty five at the time of her death. The widower died at the age of eighty means he was a widower for twenty five years.

15 years is what I come up with. He stopped crying at 70 and was 55 when she died. 70-55=15.
