My freightliner 2006 detroit 60 , blows black smoke when i shift gears i have to raise the rpms high so it wont smoke as soon as i catch good speed it stops , it dosent do it when engine is cold, anybody has any ideas what can be causing this headache,?

it could be a restriction in the air system, is it low power?check air filters,pressure chk air charge cooler for leaks.do you have any codes in the ecm? plug into the ecm and run a diagnostic,the fuel is more than likely turned up. the last truck i drove that did that was a 2002 460 mack. it would only smoke when shifting ...the reason?..it was turned up to 115% (529HP).even grossing 82,000lb.it was NOT afraid of hills.
