We have a male and a female rabbit and when she is pregnant and almost ready to give birth we provide a nest box for her to build a nest in. I would be careful about having your rabbits in a cage that is on the ground as they are very good at digging tunnels and could escape. In the wild a pregnant rabbit will dig a 'burrow' in the ground. This will be a tunnel and at the bottom she will have her kits. The rabbits do not cover the babies up as they need air to breathe, but they will have the babies in a hole dug underground.

i keep trying to reply to your comment but my computer is being funny so i dont no if you got my comment(s) back. Basically i was saying that pregnant does usually start to make a nest a couple of days before giving birth so you will have to keep checking. Look out for signs such as the rabbit pulling its fur out in order to line the nest. However my rabbit doesnt pull fur till after giving birth, so its not a sure sign. It is possible that you have a female as even vets can sex young rabbits wrong as it can be difficult when they are babies. Make sure that if she does give birth that you make sure they can get air and are not completly coverd up. Hope this helps. x

Your rabbits really shouldn't be living on the ground as it isn't sanitary enough. There is no way you could move the cage around enough to keep up with the cleanliness requirements of two rabbits. As a play pen for a few hours, it's fine but it shouldn't be their full time home. A doe should she be one shouldn't be allowed to give birth in a hole in the ground, again, as it isn't sanitary enough. There is no way to sterilize it, or clean it out. Why run the risk of having your rabbits get sick or kits dying? Also, two rabbits should never be kept together as rabbits are territorial and even if the same sex are prone to fighting and could hurt or kill each other. If they are opposite sexes they can mate and you would have no way to record the day to prepare for the births. It is vital to know on what day to place a nest box in their cage as you don't want to do it too soon as you don't want it getting too dirty and in need of cleaning real early in the kits lives. PLease separate your rabbits, learn how to sex them and if possible, get them neutered or spayed as this will make them much better pets and they will also live longer lives.
