That I'm married. A reminder to me of my commitment and obligation... every time I take it off I feel guilty that I don't have it on... it feels like I'm taking my commitment and setting it aside. I shower with it, do dishes with it, work on the car with it, I seldom take it off. I don't care what it's made of, I don't care about the cash value, I don't care if it has diamonds in it. It's a physical symbol, and a psychological symbol. It is also a deterrant to women who may be looking my way, and a safeguard to me.

That I belong to someone

Wow... that's a heavy question. It is an outward symbol to others that I have made a lifelong commitment to my Wife above ALL others. It also comforts me to look at it and know that there is someone in my life that truly cares for me. I have been married for 21 years.

I was wearing my wedding ring one day in Karate class. I was sparring with someone and got my fingers jammed and two of them broken. The ring finger swelled up before I knew what had happened. My wedding ring was cutting my finger in two - literally. The guy I was sparring with ran out to his truck and got some snips and we got the ring off before the EMS guys showed up. My wedding ring used to symbolize love and trust, now it symbolizes how not paying attention to little details, like removing a ring before class, can have a lasting impact.

Its red gold, a mixture of elements, like my mariage, a combining of two. Red like the passion that ignited it, Solid and enduring like my marriage. A symbol of eternity; all encompassing, and a sign to the unwary - Beware - I'm taken !
