My dad's dad died of cancer in 1947 due to WW2 My mum's mum died in 1975, 4 years before I was born and My mum's dad could still be alive, but he abandoned his family when my mum was 5, so is as good as dead imo.
  • I was lucky enough to have good relationships with all my grandparents. Both my mother parents are living and in their mid 80's. My dad's father died last February :( ... have fond memories of him. His mom is still kickin' and she's late 80's. Maybe I will visit them more...
  • I still have all of mine.
  • Yup, they're all still alive (as far as I know, at least -- I should hope my paternal grandfather hasn't died of alcohol poisoning yet). My parents lived with my paternal grandparents when I was under four, and left me under the care of my maternal grandparents from when I was five till I was nine.
  • We never got to meet my fathers parents...he was adopted. And I only knew my mothers mother her first husband passed away when I was a baby.

  • I did have all my grandparents alive when I was growing up. All are gone now. Now, I'm going to be a grandmother for the first time soon! I can't wait because I always loved my grandparents so much and hope I can be a good grandma too!! Good question.

  • I've only ever seen 3, I NEVER met my dad's dad!!! Now they are all gone!!!
  • Only three of the four, as my mother's father came home from the war with mental health problems, and one day disappeared, never to be seen again.
  • 4 of 4 and 2 of my great grandmas one has passed away so yeah all 4 alive + great grandma
  • I'm sorry to hear you lost your last grandparent. I knew only three of mine as my mother's father died before I was born. And all three lived in far off Belgium and would visit us when I was a child, each taking turns, every 2-3 years. Then they got too old to travel and one by one they died. My mother's mother was my favorite and she lived the longest. She had two car accidents, as a passenger, and was never the same, got confused and developed Alzheimer's, maybe from the anesthesia drugs after the accidents. No one told me that she had died until about 6 months after it had happened. My mom casually said "Oh, by the way, Granny died, did you know that?" I was so shocked as I would have liked to go back to Belgium to pay my respects and honor this fabulous woman. I still miss her very much.
  • Yes, the last time i saw my mom's mother i was 7 she had Alzheimers she didn't remember any one she died when i was 13, the last time i saw my mom's father i was 21 he had Alzheimers didn't even know who i was and i was granpa little girl that broke my heart he died about 4 yrs ago, my fathers father died when i was 19 and my fathers mother died last yr.
  • only met one, the others had died and he was very old. I rolled his cigarettes once when I was a kid and I remember he made oyster stuffing at Thanksgiving. I only saw him a few times. I got cheated in the grandparent dept.
  • I knew all four, plus a couple of stepgrandmothers. One is still living. Unfortunately, my child is in your shoes and I hate it for her. I try daily to tell her what I knew of her grandparent's and greatgrandparents, but it isn't the same. I also try to make sure she has a good bit of exposure to other elderly people.
  • Yes, I spent time with all 4 of my grandparents, while alive and 2 of my great-grandparents.
