do you mean for a few hours or for weeks? that a big IF with that question. You would not want to starve yourself, but lower the amount of food you eat. You might feel like you are starving, but you are not.
-
That would not be the best choice. The best thing to do would be to join a weight-loss program or find a better diet.
-
A common problem is people believe they will lose weight by starving themselves. It is a temporary 'solution' if you consider it such, but what happens is your body loses some of it's ability to process the food you eat later on, and less of it's fatty content will be 'used', if you will. Metabolism is something that will disappear when not used...thus, starving yourself will actually make things worse later on. If you plan on just not eating a meal, that should be fine...but going an entire day or more will have unwelcome side-effects. You're best option is to avoid, at all costs, trans-fat.
-
No! It's not the way to go. When you stop eating like that your body goes into alarm mode that there is no food to eat and conserves as much fat as it can. Then when you do eat again your body will immediately turn anything you eat into fat for emergencies. You need to cut the amount that you eat slowly and start if you haven't already an exercise program. Generally speaking, your body only burns so many calories a day, so if you are eating more calories than you burn, the extra ones are stored in your fat cells. Losing weight is tough but if you are committed you will succeed. Good luck!
-
Maybe eating healthy and plenty of excersize would be a better option...
-
not if you want to live.
-
Hell no! i'd rather be fat than stick thin
-
no dont do that. just eat different kinds of food, and in different amounts. try going for a walk or maybe go to the beach or something, little things help
-
That is not ok. You need food for energy and such. You should concentrate on losing weight by dieting and exercising.
-
No thats very bad for your body.
-
Does "starve" and "ok" even sound good in the same sentence? Not a good idea to starve anything.
-
No. Besides it won't help. It will slow down your metabolism and make processing the food you do eat more difficult and as a result you will eat less and gain weight anyway. If it doesn't kill you first.
-
No, is it not OK because loosing weight has nothing to do with starving. It is a common belief that in order to loose weight you must not eat. This is wrong, you should know what you eat, control it and eat as you should eat, not kill yourself. On the contrary, when you start eating again, you gain more weight. You eat the correct amount of proteins, carbohydrates, and others, and do exercises and you´ll live healthy.
-
Nope. I've accually tried only eating breakfast and dinner. It's easy, until you get hungry. Have a snack, then you can't stop eating. It's not fun. You can eat an apple in the morning for breakfast. It helps you stay awake and it's good for your metabolism. Also, be aware of what your stomach is saying. If you're satisfied, not full, stop eating!
-
no, absolutely not! depriving yourself of food is dangerous. you need food to live. but depriving yourself only makes you more hungry and more likely to over-eat when you DO actually eat. I tried skipping meals, doing liquid diets, taking appetite suppresents, etc. none work! learning to recognize your triggers for eating, and learning portion control and cutting down fat intake are very important. summoning will-power and motivation were very difficult for me. Then I finally joined Weight Watchers and got that motivation and will-power and support. It's not easy, but it works. I have lost 79 1/2 lbs and I'm in much better health.
-
Okay, I've been passing over this question all night. It's a REALLY bad and unhealthy idea to starve yourself no matter your size. If you are seriously wanting to lose some weight, your doctor is your best friend. They're smart people, them doctors.
-
It is never ok to starve yourself
-
it depends on your weight i guess and i tried being bulimic but thats not the way to go eaither.
-
Not at all, its actually pretty bad for you. Your body will only hang on to the fat you currently have longer because you're not providing it with the energy it needs to get through the day.
-
If your aim is to keep the fat gone forever or at least for a long period of time, no. It won't work. Losing weight by not eating makes your body hold on tight to the fat and let's you lose muscle and fluids you need. You don't have enough energy to lose the right kind of weight. It's like starving a fire of dry wood. It just can't burn those calories. Plus you aren't learning any new habits. You will have to learn to deal with food at some point if you want the weight to stay off. SO learn a new way of eating before the diet or during. Why don't you read the book The False Fat Diet by Elson M. Haas and learn about which foods are probably responsible for making you the way you are and how to get healthier.
-
No! That is called bulimia nervosa. It is very dangerous and unhealthy and can acutally lead to binge eating. The best way to lose fat is to eat a lot of fruit, veggies, and protein, and do at least 30m of cardio daily. For more information about the risks of starving yourself/bulimia nervosa you can look here: http://www.mamashealth.com/bulimia.asp
-
You should not starve yourself, but should reduce the amount of food you eat, and walk 2 or 3 blocks everyday to burn some calories. I have stopped myself from eating for 2 or 3 weeks, meaning eating a lot less than I normally do, and I lost some weight. But I did not go completely foodless. At one point I was eating a ceaser salad everyday, with no other breakfast or lunch and it went well, but I have never been on a tough foodless diet for more than 2 or 3 weeks.
-
It is NEVER ok to starve yourself. Period.
-
starving just makes your body retain as much fat and calories as it possibly can because it doesnt know when it will get nutrition again and then it starts to eat away at the muscles and trust me those muscle cells, they cannot regenerate so once they're gone, they're gone for good
-
No, because it is unhealthy and you will lose muscle mass, not so much fat, because your body goes into starvation mode and will try to hang on to its energy sources.
-
Starvation is unhealthy no matter how fat you are; your body needs more than just energy (which you can get from the fat) in order to maintain itself. So no, it is not ok. (Unless it is your intention to harm yourself)
-
Yeah if you want to be fatter as soon as you start eating again. I was told that if you ever want to gain weight to go on some crash diet and then get off it - you are bound to gain what you lost and some. Don't starve yourself just to lose weight - it will have your hair fall out and your skin will become very ugly (I know I tried to lose weight this way)
-
Eating less than two or three times a day puts the body into "survival mode" and makes it hold on to every calorie it takes in, storing it as fat in preparation for the dearth of food to come. It's the same principal as water retention. To lose excess water and fat cells, drink PLENTY of (preferably cold) water, and eat 5 - 6 SMALL meals (no bigger than your fist, and healthy options) per day. Exercise is also of key importance. You MUST burn a good percentage of the calories you take in every day.
-
A big NO..It will never help to lose some weight without sacrificing your health..^_^
-
Maybe...but probably not. If anything, your metabolism will plummet to where you'll lose no weight, and just be miserable all the time. I haven't been losing any fat on a 1000 calorie/day diet and I have to eat more meals. Now I feel uneasy all the time because the meals seem like too much (when in actuality, they aren't much at all). So don't do what I did. You'll just be uncomfortable, all the time.
-
There's a difference between eating less and starving yourself. If you don't eat at all, even if you're fat, you'll die of starvation (or more likely malnutrition). There are certain things you need that most likely aren't stored in your fat, and if you don't take in more of them you'll die.
-
Starving yourself can actually make you gain more weight. It shuts down the metabolism because your body goes into ketosis and then when you do eat, the food instantly turns to fat in order to protect it from starvation again. The best way to lose weight and keep it off, is to reduce calories by 500 to 700 per day, exercise regularly and drink lots of water. Here's some info on ketosis from wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketosis
-
I think you know the answer to the question yourself.
-
NO - this may cause quick weight loss in the short term but you'll gain all the weight back plus more in the long term. Read this: http://www.nowloss.com/very-low-calorie-diets-will-not-work.htm
-
Yes I think that it is okay to starve yourself if you are over weight. Let's face it, no one wants to date a fat chick much less marry one. I was on here to find advise on ways to slowly starve myself and surprisingly I got a lot of good ideas. No one wants to admit it but when you are fat you are considered ugly. You don't get the job or lifestyle that you want. You always have to work twice as hard as the skinny girl who looks great ALL the time even if she decided to leave the house in hair rollers and house shoes. I have children and pray to God everyday that they don't inherit the "fat" gene from their mama. I have been used and abused by men, over looked for jobs that I totally qualify for and I settled for a man who may have gay tendencies...all because I was fat. So starve yourself girl! I know that I am. Good luck
-
No. You can drastically reduce your caloric intake causing your body to burn fat reserves without ''starving'' yourself yo...
-
mmm Not a good idea hun. That can do alot of damage to your body and even have a reverse effect of losing weight. You need food for energy and life. Try eating better foods and excersizing. Ive been through it. Trust me. Dont starve yourself. ~+~
-
There is no reason why you shoud starve yourself. What you need is to learn to treat your body with respect and be patient.
-
I've done both and can offer you advice on how it worked out for me. Starving: I was miserable, nervous, edgy and Hungry! I was also very unhealthy and it ultimately didn't work. The reason to starve yourself would be to lose the weight quicker, right? You expect to starve for a few short weeks and suddenly have the model's figure you've dreamed about. Keep starving and that dream will become a hallucination. Eating: I weigh everything I eat. I account for it. I choose healthy low fat meals and have fun trying new recipes. I exercise Every day. I've worked up to bike rides that are over 90 minutes long. Has it happened overnight? Hell no. But in 10 short weeks I've lost 20 lbs. I'm averaging 2 lbs per week, which is on target for healthy weight loss. I am less than halfway to goal, but I am confident I will get there because of how GOOD I feel. Why would I stop? I'm not depriving myself of taste, texture, or anything that my body needs. The moreal of the story is: Invest the time and effort, don't expect a quick fix, and don't use the word diet. Diets have any ending. Lifestyle changes do not.
-
YES, IT WILL MAKE YOU THIN. IF YOU ARE THIN YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. IF YOU ARE BEATIFUL YOU ARE POPULAR. IF YOU ARE POPULAR YOU ARE HAPPY. IF YOU ARE HAPPY YOU HAVE NO PROBLEMS. IF YOU HAVE NO PROBLEMS YOUR LIFE IS PERFECT. THIN IS PERFECTION.
-
No, not really. Actually starving yourself isn't an effetive way to lose weight. Because when you finially do eat. Your body stores all of the food that it gets, because it's under the impression that it's not going to be eating again. And it's really bad for you.
-
I don't think thats a very effective way of losing weight. No, its not okay and it can lead to more dangerous health problems.
-
No, this will not help you in reducing. Have a lot of fruit juices, raw salads and vegetables.
-
NO its not, i tried for a good week, and ended up staying at the same weight, not gaining or losing. If you wanna lose wieght, start walking, get u a mp3 player listen to some jams when u walk, and i have found that walking gets addictive, even though my legs are killing me,i walk past the pain.its good.I even started my kids walking with me,.we talk and its become a family thing,we all do together. It will also boost your self esteem, you will feel as if u have accomplished something.or at least i do.Because i have, and it also gives you more energy and makes u feel healthy.Hope you dont starve yourself.
-
No, because doing that will ultimately make you gain more weight. If you starve yourself, your body will store anything you eat as fat instead of burning it as energy.
-
Absolutly NOT. Your body is bluit for survival, this means it will do what ever it can to keep going, So if you only take in 200 calories then that is all your body will use, ultimently this will slow down your metabolism almost stopping it, then you won't lose any weight at all so don't starve yourself instead workout more and eat healthier foods
-
no. just eat less. If you dont eat, your body will go into starvation mode, and store more as fat. not good. :)
-
I wish life is that simple XD my dear, I starve myself nearly to dead but no it doesn't work :(
-
Well, the problem is that your body will go into a shock type mode and will not allow you to really loose weight. You should eat a little under a normal calorie level and work out so your body can work off the fat naturally
-
depends on your definition of ok and your goals. If your goal is to loose body fat then this is a stupid way to go about doing this... when you starve yourself your body starts absorbing like its going into hibernation and stores higher-calorie substances so even though you eat less fat your body retains a higher count
-
It is counter productive. The body needs nutrition to produce energy. It needs energy to burn calories. If you starve yourself, your metabolism will never work in your favor to help you take off the pounds appropriately. Starvation is literally the body digesting its own muscles. That is not something that any of us want :)
-
No, starvation is not the answer. Get to the root of the reason you are overweight and fix that. Then you can lose weight effectively. If you are genetically larger, try to make sure you stay healthy and LOVE YOU!
-
if you wanns die and im close i have anorexia and im 26 years old and im at 71 lbs because staving your self can becom an addiction, and for me it became not only an addiction as well as starving my self was a matter of control and it was the only thing in my life that i could was what i ate well now i wish i never would have started this starving my self because its going to cost me my life.
-
No, it's never ok.
-
Starve is harsh to the body and can lead to other problems!!! That's why the Atkin's diet is no good. It actually has been linked to diabetes. But, yet the Lord talks of fasting in the Bible!
-
you should definitely not starve yourself. there are other ways such as exercise to help one lose weight.
-
Absolubtly not, you will put the weight back on as soon as you start to eat again. My friend went on a "fast" ( don't eat at all not even when the sun is around) for 2 weeks, lost 9 pounds. She broke her "fast" by eating one meal and gained 11 pounds 3 days after.
-
No when you starve your body it stores any food you eat into fat as an emergancy precedure so when you do eat it goes all back on!!!
-
NEVER EVER EVER EVER starve yourself!!! it puts your body into starvation mode, and anythin you DO eat your bady takes it and turns it to fat, its like survival mode... and your body will deteriorate, instead eat healthy, lots of veggies, chicken meat, (not skin) ICE WATER!!! your body burns LOTS of calories trying to bring it to body temp, you lose lots of weight with ice water!!
-
No. I did it... when I began eating again, I gained all the weight back, plus more. I now weigh 30 pounds more then I did before I started restricting at all. It's not worth it.
-
No. All it accomplishes is to make your body into a more efficient converter of food to energy. When you begin to eat again, your body strives to utilize everything you eat in an effort to overcome the starvation diet.
-
there's wide line between starving and dieting. try eating healthier and exercising fairly regularly, its much better for you
-
If you drop below 1500 calories a day, your body thinks food is scarce, and actually starts to hang on to fat reserves for future use. If you drop fat too fast, it will come back with a vengance. Calculate your BRM (Daily metabolism, how many calories you burn just keeping your heart beating and lungs breathing), then add in exercise. This will tell you how many calories you burn during the day. The subtract 500. That's how many calories you want to eat daily. If you burn 500 calories a day, in a week, you've burned 3500, which is one pound of fat. Watch your carbs late in the afternoon/evening, take protein before cardio and weightlifting, and cut down on fried and sweet foods. Too easy, fatty.
-
No, my S/O tells me that when you starve yourself that your body thinks it is actually being starved and starts to conserve energy by burning muscles not fat. he says that its better to eat a lot more little meals (that add up) then to eat three meals. I can tel you that it works for me!
-
No, it puts your body into starvation mode. Try eating a lot of small meals frequently. Keep your body warm. There is a misconception that being cold means you'll lose weight. That isn't true. Keeping warm makes your body decided to build more fat so you will be insulated against the cold. That's what walruses and seals do. Try cooking light instead of going out. It is more affordable and you know exactly what you are putting into what you eat. Sometimes I find that leaner meals can be very satisfying when they are spicy. Spiciness cuts my cravings for salt and fat. (I am talking about asian food like veitnam pho and korean cuisine. That kind of spiciness.) Not everyone is into that though. Try small meals, don't starve, there is a danger that you will eventually binge.
-
No just exercise and eat healthy meals.
-
Eating less is a better option than starving yourself. Cut down, don't stop eating!
-
no
-
don't starve yourself it's a bad idea....and who thinks your fat ....you or someone else. I don't know if your male or female but alot of men told me they don't like tooth picks and rather woman with alittle meat . big people are beautiful to. DON'T RUIN YOUR HEALTH FOR ANOTHER PERSON TO EXCEPT YOU
-
What would be better is if you just eat 500 calories less per day. Do that for 7 days and you will lose a pound. Do starve yourself, you need food to live
-
And the other option is eating yourself to death
-
If you starve yourself you will actually slow down your metabolism and cause your body to store fat.
-
no, just eat less and exurise
-
Definitely not. There are quick ways to lose weight that are healthier than starving yourself. Try doing the Master Cleanse. I recomend doing research about it and buying the book. Its not expensive but without the info that the book has to give you may mess it up and get no results. Its a 10 day cleanse that detoxes your body and helps you lose weight fast. Also check out www.therawfoodsite.com Its a support group for those on the Master Cleanse.
-
I dont think it is too bad to starve your self, as long as you drink juices. I had starved myself for about 3 weeks and just drank v8 juice and a cracker a day along with exercise tho. I only got sick once during the whole time, although i had only lost 7 pounds doing this, which came right back as soon as i started eating. my advice is eat fruit and drink v8 or green tea nothing else, you'll lose about 25 pounds, my mother did it.
-
No thats not healthy, preferably moderation before you get morbidly obese is the route to go.
-
Absolutely not. Rather, change what you eat and how much. There is no excuse to keep yourself from food unless you are fasting for a specific medical or spiritual purpose. Changing your 'diet' completely (not going on a diet but changing your lifestyle) is the best way to lose weight, not starving yourself.
-
Its never OK to starve yourself. You need to consume enough daily calories to sustain bodily functions just eat a little less and exercise more to lose weight.
-
That will backfire on you.Try cutting back on what you eat and exercise daily. It will help you to get a book about nutrition and exercise.
-
Definitely not. Even if you are fat you still need to eat and if you try and starve yourself you will make yourself ill. You will also slow down your metabolism. So when you go back to eating normally again, you will put back any weight you may have lost. If you eat 3 healthy well balanced meals at regular times during the day, dont eat between meals and take some simple exercises, you will lose weight.
-
Its never ok.
-
Actually, you can get fatter doing that. Your body, when starved, goes into a "shut down" mode, and your matabalism slows, conserving the fat storage to ensure survival. When you starve, you may lose water, which wieghs a good bit in and of itself, but when you break the starve mode, your metabolism takes time to go back, and your calorie intake is not burned as efficiantly for a couple of days.
-
No!No!No! And definitely NO! Don't ever starve youself. You're depriving yourself of nutrition. Always eat; there are options to lose weight by eating healthy. I've tried this kind of diet that helps with acne. Sad thing is I lossed weight, which wasn't my intentions. I'm skinny enough as it is. Nevertheless, the diet has worked and made me thinner altogether. The thing is to eat healthy and different kinds moderately. Don't over eat accept for greens and lettuce. Trust me. Eating healthy doesn't make you hungry; eating unhealthy makes you more hungry. I love eating; eating is my passion. Yes, I'm those kind of person who eats and hardly ever gain weight. What you eat is what you are- with the exception of genetics. This diet magically makes me really full. if your hungry, hungry, eat coconut oil. Those things are beneficially healthy. They have fat because of the fact that their oil, but that doesn't necessarily mean its bad. They are the good kinds of fat. Have you heard of omega 3 fats? Ever since I eat those kind of things, I see all those kind of products sparking up. Try eating those. When cooking, use walnut, extra virgin olive oil, or unrefined oil. Don't use typical conventional oil like canola oil. Again, eat everthing moderately; don't overdose. You can learn from a lady who died from an overdosage of water even if it seems healthy. Eat foods with a lot of fiber and other nutritions. Cut back a lot from processed food even if they have health claims. When there is health claims, there's bound to be cons and downsides of the product. Never ever eat diet foods like diet coke. They are just substance that taste like what they are supposed to be and have absolutely no nutrition whatsover. Also cut back on cow products and more eating of the organics. I don't care what food inspectors or nutritionist say! Organics are far better compared to processed and conventional products. In mornings and nights, eat lightly. Eat heavier during lunch; that's when nutritions absorb the best. Try to eat three meals a day. Eat simple like back then in the past. It all goes back to mother nature and simplicity. Eat fruits seperately. don't eat them at the same time with other foods; it might upset your stomach. They'll digest faster eating alone. Drink tea and herbal teas. Don't eat foods with tons of sugars. If you do, then eat a lot of fibers to balance it out. Just make eating simple and use common sense to what's healthy and what's not. If you're so eager to lose weight, this diet is more preferable than starvation. Sorry if this is information over load, but commitment takes a lot to get through a goal of losing weight.
-
its never a good idea to starve because the wieght lost will come back anyways so whats the point? cutting back calories in a healthy reasonable way it ideal. But talk to a doctor.
-
it's never okay to starve yourself - the lowest you can do is take your usual calorie intake in half - so if you eat 2000 (womens guide) 1000 is the lowest you should consume. if you eat 4000 2000 is the lowes you should eat, otherwise its too much for your body
-
no...you lose muscle which is something you need...you'll lose wieght but its not the healthy way to do it and when you do start eating...you'll gain the wieght back quickly...
-
No it's not, your body will go into starvation mode and will start eating up your muscle to protect itself. Then when you do eat again, you will gain back twice the weight. It is best to exercise and eat healthy. It will come off. You need to remember it didn't get tehre over night, and you can't expect it to go away overnight! Be patient and give yourself realistic goals. : O ) Hope this helps!
-
No just cut back on the amount of food you munch on and walk. Everytime you get the urge to eat, walk and in a few months you will see the difference.
-
Is it o.k. to be anorexic? 0_0
-
Nope. You just need to accept how you look and start being active. Get involved with something and a group of people. Weight watchers is a great program for cutting calories and starting to eat healthy.
-
It's never ok to starve yourself
-
By asking this question you are assuming its ok to be fat. It is not ok to be fat if you are fat for any other reason than medical/genetics problems. Any other reason is laziness and lack of respect for yourself.
-
Nooooooo. It is funny, when you eat right, excersize and maybe splurge on thanksgiving or easter, if you starve yourself the following day, you will be fine. However, over the long term starving yourself you will lose everything else first before fat. Fat is built up for energy and will be used last in case of emergency 'or what your body considers an emergency'. However, if youy starve you will lose weight, but only muslce mass first and you will not physically be healthier. The reason you should want to lose weight is to be healthier first, look good second. Not the other way around. Do it the right way for yourself!
-
well, NO. You don't have to starve yourself, nor become bulimic. Just reduce your calorie intake if you really don't want to exercise.
-
no, i tried it before. not only it makes me gaining weight but i feel uncapable to do anything. i lose 15 kg in 2 years and i never gain that weight again. it has been 5 years now. its simple, eat dinner before 5 pm and only consume 70% from you meal. after your weight is plateau, reduce 30% more from your daily meal. take meal every 4-5 hours, and avoid fast food. reward yourself a burger (just 1 burger) every sunday. * my friend give me a tips last time but i never had the will to try it. ^stop eating before you are full^. **<try it and good luck>.
-
No matter what size you are you should never starve yourself, because if you are trying to lose weight thats the improper way to do it you need to make sure you eat your right amount of meals just less calories and more excercise hey! it helped me or go to www.webmd.com for more info.
-
NO; you can starve yourself right into the HOSPITAL ... However; you CAN put yourself on a regiment of diet and exercise ..to take off those xtra pounds ...
-
No, it's never okay to starve yourself. It can make you very sick. If you want to lose weight there are other ways to do it. You can eat smaller portions, add 8 glasses of water to your diet, get more exercise. As long as you are buring more calories than you are taking in, you'll lose weight. Just be sure not to sacrifice proteins and what is necesary to stay healthy.
-
No, no matter what your size, it is increasing your risk for several unpleasant ailments, too many to list-plus it slows down your metabolism a lot and makes it even more difficult to lose weight. Eating 6 small meals throughout the day, exercising, drinking lots of water, and getting plenty of rest/sleep, and down time.
-
Your metabolism will slow to a stand still and you will go into starvation mode, your body will hold onto fat as reserves just in case. This is the silliest thing to do to lose weight. try eating six small meals a day like three main meals and three snacks as most of our daily calories go into warming our bodies and eating like this will keep metabolism high as the body has something to digest often
