  • Try using a hair dryer and peeling the decals off slowly. Most are just applied with ammonia and water and pressed on. If this doesn't work, then they were put on with adhesive, and you might as well use a solvent to destroy the whole thing, since you can't get only underneath the decal. Automotive paint is remarkably resistant to a lot of solvents but very sensitive to a few. Anything that is an epoxy solvent is a major no-no, but stuff as strong as acetone (melts urethane plastics) or mineral spirits shouldn't do anything but clean car paint really well. As always, first test in an inconspicuous area, etc.
  • 9-27-2017 Every auto parts store sells a can of solvent for exactly that purpose.
