Yes, many people eat doughnuts.

When I had a fuzz buster in my car years ago, it wouldn't go off by the police station, but it always went off by the Ram's Horn restaurant (local chain in the southeastern Michigan area)!

Some do, some don't, just like us civillians.

My understanding about the cops/donuts stereotype is that the donuts were largely incidental. The bigger factor was that 'back in the day', donut shops were the only places open all night where the cops could get COFFEE. Of course, enough stories about cops and donut shops made it into the popular culture to reinforce the stereotype. Here's one egregious example: http://www.heferito.com/donutrun.asp But I have noticed over the past few years that I see cops and cop vehicles at STARBUCKS far more often then I see them at donut shops. So I believe there is some validity to the need-their-coffee-fix theory. . . .

In my smartass teenage years, I once offered a police officer a donut in a very mocking, silly sort of way. He saw through my teasing for what it was, and this is how he replied: "No, we don't eat donuts so much nowadays. More bagels and muffins. They have far less fat." Police officers are like anyone else - they often opt for a low-fat alternative in these times of fast food-induced guilt.
-
Yes, but it's just something to snack while they are enjoying their coffee.
-
I would say not in Jefferson city they are very vigilant about catching speeders lately. Everytime I am out and about I see a police person pulling someone over with lights flashing. They are not eating donuts. I just wish they were then I wouldn't have to watch my back!

I heard of this one guy in the Police Force who actually goes on stage and sings for them. I don't know how often this particular guy performs in front of a paying audience of Doughnuts or not... However I do know he regularly offers up his time and talents without charge , singing & performing at benefit dinners & fund rasing functions organised by a philanthropic group of Doughnuts. The HH&H Society. 'Health, Happiness & Holeness For All.

Cops eating doughnuts has been a tradition for many years. Its passed on from one generation of officers to another. Not all of us eat doughnuts, but about 98% do. It all started years ago, before stores stayed open 24/7. For officers working the midnite shift, the only store open were doughnut and coffee houses. Somehow, coffee, doughnuts and police all just seem to go together.
-
I used to work w/ a guy thats a cop on nights & weekends & anytime we had donuts in the office he always referred to them as cop food. So I guess they do.

I don't know if it's true for ALL cops, but back when I was in college, I had a part-time job at a donut shop, and we had cops coming by all of the time, every day.
