  • I use boric acid around my windowsills to keep pests out. Once an earwig tried to crawl through just as I was pouring the acid along the sill. Normally I'd kill the bug instantly by squishing it but this time I decided to see how long it would take the acid to exterminate the pest. I watched as the earwig writhed around in pain. He never tried to crawl OUT of the acid. He just wiggled around in the powder until his demise. It took about 5 minutes for it to kill him. I'd imagine it would take about the same amount of time for an ant.
