Madrona. Native to the Pacific northwest, they are called the tree that sheds it's bark and not it's leaves. It is an evergreen with lovely smooth red skin on it's twisted branches and trunk, that peels off in late summer. The wood is hard and brittle. It is nearly impossible to transplant. A very pretty tree.
