The most foolproof, even though it is not a home remedy but very reasonably priced is DEET. Due to the diseases mosquitos carry, at least where I live, we must use that all summer long, even on the little children.

Be careful with it getting on clothing, but this one is a surefire for any itching from mozzies to chickenpox: mix turmeric with water into a paste and put on the itch. It is an Indian ayurvedic remedy, and has been scientifically backed. Turmeric has antibiotic qualities amongst others.

A dab of ammonia kills the bacteria that's in the mosquito's saliva - which is what makes you itch. :oP But you have to get it soon after being bitten, like a few hours or less.
-
You could always take an oatmeal bath. That generally works for me.
-
Dunno, but I read somewhere that if you apply just a little bit of your own saliva on the itch,it stops it from itching all together,It makes sense because of the all the enzyem's in your saliva.Im not joking.

My family uses any kind of deoderant, this takes the itch away, but what works even better is hydrocortizon cream, this works great to stop the itching and the area seams to heal faster.
-
I keep a solid deodorant with me during bug season. As soon as I get a bite, I rub it over the area and it stops itching and usually disappears quicker:-)
-
I live in mosiquito alley too. My mom put an "X" on the bite with her fingernail and that helped. I will try the deodorant thing next time since I bite my fingernails.
-
I keep baking soda in the freezer to reduce the smell and also to have handy for mosquito, bee, and other irritants. The cold and the baking soda get rid of the sting and itch quickly in my experience...and my freezer smells better. ;)

Put an "X" in the bite with your finger nail then rub some of your saliva in it. Sounds gross I know, but it works! Also try not to scratch. It makes the bite/welt bigger and itchier.
-
Ok, Here's the deal. X the welt with a fingernail and spray it with Right Guard deodorant. Works instantly. Windex does too.
-
The best way is to rub the bite with a lemon. The lemon juice takes the itch away.

I remember when I went to camp, we were told that putting some spit on it will help a little. it was a while ago so I don't even remember if it works. :) ++
