Nearest hydrant is a block away on a corner. I live in the old side of town.

Did you see it??? Yes, used to be right in front of the house. Couldn't park in front of your own house for 30 years. Then a water main broke and we asked the city to move it up the street while they were fixing the break. They did!! It still interferes with parking but, we ignore it.

Well the fire department is across the street from my house(literally), does that count?

we don't have fire hydrants in the UK the same as ones in the US. There are points in the water-pipes under the pavement, and there are little covers on them, and the fire services use those to attach the hoses.
-
No. I have an outside spigot though.

Yes, I am fortunate. The fire hydrant is located in front of immediate neighbor's house.

On the corner and sometimes it is like a geyser to let us know it is there. +5

We have two, both about 2 houses away.

There are no fire hydrants here at all. Though there is access to the water mains, in a box embedded in the ground, in front of every house....
