I just took a bit of a confidence knock actually - had an interview on Tuesday and just heard I didn't get the job....bit down in the mouth right now.

YES. This is always in YOUR control!
-
I'd say I'm a "healthy" 8 !
-
In my natural state, yes. Some of it is wild abandon; I don't worry about looking stupid, because I know I'll eventually get it right.

Do I need to be full of confidence? Won't enough confidence to meet my daily needs do? Won't I be making unnecessary mistakes if I am full of confidence? I think I should be about 3 quarters full of confidence leaving room for doubts in the remaining 1 quarter. This way I will have an early warning system in place and I will be less likely to commit irreversible mistakes. In short my answer to your question is, No.

Most of the time about most things. But there are also many things I'm not good at and uneducated about, but if I want to badly enough I can learn and practice.
-
Good question. This is why I decided to share another answer. Self-confidence is really an attitude about your skills and abilities.
