  • My complaint is 1) illegal immigration and 2) who we allow in legally and who we don't. We grant many green cards to uneducated immigrants and prevent many of the educated immigrants to come to our country. Maybe not prevent but severely restrict. This is one of the reasons we have had the direction of "dumbing up America".
  • We humans tend to reject strangers, foreign people, because they make us feel a little uncomfortable. It is the foundation for Xenophobia.
  • Because Americans are selfish, they immigrated here, annexed California and Texas from the Mexicans and still complain of immigrants working here
  • I don't have a problem with the actual person. I feel if you come to our country you should learn our language. I remember a family from our school going to France when I was in high school. The whole family learned enough french to ask basic questions and answer some questions. If I go to someone else's country I will learn their language. I shouldn't leave it up to them to learn mine.
  • Most people actually aren't against immigration. It's just that the people who don't like immigration talk about it more and tend to be louder.
  • its all about the money
  • I am not against immigration. It's illegal immigration I am against. IT is unfair for those who apply, pay the fee and do the paperwork and wait their time to do it the right way..it is unfair to them to allow illegals in the US. Illegals cost us a lot more in benefits, american jobs, hospital shut downs, etc than most people want to admit. If they are legal, they are welcome here.
  • I don't believe the Nomads were considered immigrants. they were the very first people on U.S. soil. Immigrants back then, were entirely different than immigrants of today. Back then, it was history in the making. I am not against anyone coming to America to work and live. I only ask that they are in America legally. Illegal immigrants are draining America dry. most have no health insurance and taxpayers have to foot the bill. This is one good reason.
  • i'm not against it, just against "illegal" immigration...and against their being "given" everything with the peoples (immigrants) hard earned tax dollars and against them not earning their own way and paying for own education and health care the way we the people of the US did when immigrated here....:)justme
  • Not immigrants but ILLEGAL immigrants. No one is obsessed with "anti-immigration laws", rather we are obsessed with having our actual immigration laws followed. Our immigration laws allow for FAIR immigration from all over the world by allowing ALL immigrants an equally fair chance to come to the US. Those who illegally enter and reside in the US necessitate the lowering of quota numbers for immigrants from the rest of the world. Since illegal immigration became so out of control in the US, quotas have been reduced by 800%. That is why those who CHOOSE to illegally immigrate to the US are stealing immigration opportunity from legal immigrants around the world. To me, THAT is not fair.
  • The US is being taken over from the inside out...we are not protecting our boundaries. If you look at it from a systems theory perspective, boundaries should be permiable but present...The US practically has none. Think of your house as a country and the outside walls are the boundaries. The boundaries are permiable through the doors and the windows; and we control who/what permiates the boundaries by using discretion regarding what we open our doors and windows to. Can you imagine just ignoring strangers that come into your home univited and help themselves to the things you have worked hard for and treasure (your loved ones included) and doing nothing about it...or even rewarding them for it? How long would this house be YOUR home?
  • I agree with this question - and the arguments that they are against illegal immigrants only, and needing to learn the language do not hold water for me - as the early settlers were hardly legal either - and did not speak the languages in use either.
  • Basically, people are scared. Scared of losing jobs to an illegal immigrant, scared of losing tax revenue to pay for services for illegal immigrants, scared (in some cases) of having the "American identity" diluted by large influxes of people with different language and customs, scared of higher crime, etc. Not all of these are completely unfounded: they just tend to get distorted. Illegal immigrants also contribute -- they take low-wage jobs that others won't take, they spend that money in a sector of the economy that needs cash flow, they are generally quiet, friendly, and helpful. Beyond that, they're human beings, and pretty much all human beings contribute something just by trying to be decent people. So it's not all one thing or the other, there's a mix of positive and negative things about illegal immigrants. What happens when Americans are afraid, is that tends to distort the perception so that they can *only* see the negative things about the matter. Nevertheless, it's clear that it wouldn't work to just throw open the borders and let anybody enter: there are good reasons to have standards for admission and limits on the quantity of people we try to absorb each year. I think a "real American" (which is, I admit, an almost insanely provocative phrase) WANTS to share what we have here. They *want* more people to enjoy the economic success, the civil rights, the satisfaction of living in a country that isn't in constant turmoil. It pains such a person to have to keep anybody out... it is done with regret. I wish those things on everybody in every country --- at least when I'm not in a foul mood.
  • There is a difference between LEGAL and ILLEGAL immigrants/immigration. Another difference is that our ancestors/immigrants assimilated into the established society. They did not expect everything in the established society to conform to them. They were expected to learn English. IF immigrants want to continue to speak their native languages, continue their native customs, then either they can do so in the privacy of their own homes or they can return to their motherland. Our country should not be expected to print drivers manuals in dozens of languages, have interpretors in hospitals, have multi-lingual police officers. Just the huge expense on taxpayers is enough to cause resentment. BTW, a friend of my step-daughters spent some time in France.....she was ORDERED out of the country within six months of having finished her schooling. They won't accept IMMIGRANTS. Hypocritical........
  • This is a leftover from the Bush day. Midterm elections in 2006 the war was a big issue. In order to divert attention from that, and suffer big losses, the republicans tried to make illegal immigrants a big issue. It backfired poorly. Not only did the democrats make bigger gains than expected, the Hispanic community, once a republican supporter, switched sides, too. A lot of neo-con retards were convinced, though, and they still blather about how bad it is. It never was an issue before.
  • For most of us who talk about this issue, it is not immigration in general that we are against. It is illegal immigration in specific. Others have given some of the reasons to be against it. Let me give you some more. Because illegal immigrants are here illegally, they cannot get legitimate identification papers (Social Security card, etc.) This means that they have to use illegally obtained documentation. This means stealing someone else's identity. How would you feel if you got called in for an IRS audit because some illegal alien had been using your SS# resulting in the IRS having a record of you earning more money then you actually did and, therefore, having paid less taxes than they think that you should have? This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the problems that identity theft can and does cause people. Second, because these people are coming in illegally, they tend to want to avoid the authorities. This makes them easier prey for criminal elements in this country. Thus, they can be abused and exploited by less than reputable people and they won't go to the police to report it out of fear of being sent home. Another reason is, because these people are coming in illegally, they are not going through the proper channels for entry into this country. The vast majority of the people coming in are probably relatively harmless. However, evil people can and do use these same channels to smuggle in things that are anything but benign. They use them to smuggle in drugs, weapons, and criminals. There are people out there that do wish us harm. They can use the same avenues to smuggle potential terrorists into the country. The flood of people coming over the boarder makes it that much more difficult separate out those with evil intents from those that just want jobs. Finally, as others have pointed out, it is just not fair to those that go through the process legally. All of these floods of illegals take spaces that could have been filled by people who honor and respect our laws. Personally, I don't care about a person's country of origin. I don't care about someone's race. This country was built by immigration. However, we do have a right to know who is coming into this country and for what purpose. Illegal immigration is bad because it prevents us from being able to do this and, in this world where some people are willing to die in suicide attacks, it poses a very serious security risk for all of us.
  • The people of this Country are not at all against immigration. Referring to illegal immigration as if it were the same as legal immigration is nothing but a political lie against the American people. When people flood into the U.S. by the millions and we don't know who they are or where they are, we put this Nation at great risk. And such people are far less likely to be good citizens right out of the starting gate because they are willing to break our laws the moment they step across that border. It is highly disrespectful to all of us. If we actually needed these immigrants as claimed by the politicians, they could have simply increased the quotas of immigrants and told them to sign up, give us the imformation that we need --like proving you're not some life time criminal-- and be admitted properly. Our own government has failed us miserably on this matter. The millions of illegals who have entered the U.S., many of them the worst of criminals, have created, and are creating, nothing but chaos. They all must go, and if they want to return, do it properly and LEGALLY.
  • Mexico has immigration laws as do all countries worthy of the description and you had better not violate them. The only exception is the US where such things are ignored. Legal immigration..wonderful..illegal immigration..hell no!
  • Well that is a good question?
  • If you remember, not long ago there was a raid on a business in Laurel,Mississippi. The largest ILLEGAL immigrant raid in history.I live here.Howard Industries used the age old excuse that they could not fill the jobs with people from the area.I have friends who work there. They told me that after the raid, the jobs were filled within 3 days,3 days.It is no longer an excuse to claim that ILLEGALS are doing jobs Americans wont do.What it comes down to is cheap labor.Companies dont care about American workers any longer.By hiring ILLEGALS they drive down wages, make the cost of health care explode and drive up the welfare rolls. Not to mention the BILLIONS of dollars that leave our economy when the ILLEGALS send that money back to Mexico.
  • I am not nor have I ever been against people coming to America to LIVE......but as in all country's ....be within the LAWS of this COUNTRY also......do it LAWFULLY!!! the anti immigration law, sadly ,has become a necessity..WHY? you ask......America's hospitality has always been re-nowned..but that HOSPITALITY has become ETREMELY ABUSED and MILKED ,to the point that is LAWFUL citizens have become EXTREMELY ABUSED AND MILKED!!! with no end in sight.....and EXTREMELY OVER POPULATED with these most 'EXTREMELY ARROGANT UNLAW ABIDING IMMIGRANTS' thatsJustme and the SAD FACTS.....
  • Remember it's illegal aliens more so then immigrants. When immigration is regulated the economy is in consideration. When it isn't it keeps low paying wages at just that because people are willing to work at lower wages. Employers then see no need to increase wages and take a smaller profit.
  • Employers cannot hire illegal immigrants legally. Therefore they don't have much impact on most payscales. The truth is that pay issues are a problem because many politicians are against increasing the minimum wage. As far as the question goes, people frequently have an us vs them attitude towards people that they view as different from themselves. Strict immigration laws are coming many years too late, as any native American would tell you. Americans today are simply worried about somebody doing to us what we did to those that were here before us.
  • Americans are not against immigrants. We are tired of being overrun by I-L-L-E-G-A-L immigrants. Why is that so difficult for some people to understand???????? ILLEGAL immigration is harmful to the US economy. ILLEGAL immigration stresses our welfare safety net. ILLEGAL immigration clutters up our streets and highways with enough vehicles to cause traffic jams that disappeared the day they went 'on strike' to show how 'helpful' they are to us. LOL.
  • wouldn't that be hypocritical?
  • Exactly. Besides, Native Americans lived here from the beginning. There were always anti-immigration laws but the last couple of years they're really big on it.
  • I think more ppl are upset about illegal immigration, there are guidelines to follow to enter the US When an illegal shows, the are given free medical care, put on welfare, etc without ever paying into the systems that provide for it, until they have a deportation hearing. Not too many ppl have an issue with ppl coming to the US legaly
  • Everywhere? I don't know anyone who is against the immigrants themselves, just the way some immigrants go about it. We must make it fair for the immigrants who EARN citizenship. I am not against immigrants, but I am against illlegal immigrants. (Although many of us are guilty of hiring them ;)
  • Cause thay don't want to share America, with people who don't look the same as americans. So basically they are rasist. They claim that america is united, but it is not.
  • cause we dont barge in their place without passports why should they! im glad they have that rule!
  • Americans are obsessed because breaking them causes all kinds of havoc to both sides. Generally people who come here without any legal right, wind up being criminals because they are breaking the law to begin with. Lack of control over who enters the country causes all sorts of people to be able to come here, including people no country wants because they are ciminals. Anyone else, I welcome with open mind and heart. If there is room and there are good people wanting to live here, Welcome all.
