If you wish to make archival copies of your DVDs the best software I've found is DVD Shrink 3.2. It is orphan-ware (in that lawsuits forced the writers to abandon it) and there are "plug-ins" available to allow it to remove all copy protection from even the newest DVDs. You also have the option of shrinking a dual layer DVD to a single layer or re-authoring the disc so as to just contain the movie only. Hope this helps.

Some DVDs are copy protected so they can’t be saved on the laptop. DVDs can only be watched on a laptop once in the SuperDrive when connected to the laptop. If you don’t see a copy protected symbol on the back of the DVD cover then it can be saved on your laptop.
