  • i owned a turtle. I had 5 turtles in total. Two of them ran away, and then the next day at school, this guy told me that he saw two turtles in his yard. he didn't even know that I lost my turtles. I had a turtle, but it got soft shell disease and died. The other one died somehow, it had a problem. My other turtle died, it wouldn't eat anymore. i don't want anymore turtles anymore, I don't want them to die. :( But I do love turtles. :D

  • I used to always go to the crick and catch turtles, frogs, snakes, and whatever else I could find. I never kept them long, maybe a week or so then I would let them go again. I had countless hours of fun searching for them then letting them go again. I must of had a hundred different turtles in my day.

  • We owned a large tank of female red eared sliders- I think we had 7. We had one male. They all grew quite large. We fed our turtles turtle chow but supplimented with raw ground beef, worms, lettuce and craw fish. We took the tank and separated a section off and filled it with sand and a warm light. They loved to sun and eventually started laying eggs! What a learning experience for my girls! They would dig a hole in the sand with their hind legs then lay 10 to 15 eggs. We waited till they were finished then dug them up and layed them on a bed of vermiculite in a plastic container. Under the container I put a heating pad on low with a towel in between, a few drops of water on the vermiculite then burried the eggs carefully. I kept a lid on the container with holes in it. Then waited. You could tell the viable eggs after a few weeks by putting them up to a light, you could see a blood spot inside. Then a few weeks later you could see movement in the egg! Only 2-4 would hatch. It was incredable to see them hatching!
  • nope, but I could go out and get one if I wanted one.
  • No, but my parents had two tortoises.
  • Yeah, we found one in my front yard, I almost ran over him with the lawn mower. Luckily I saw him and we were able to get him to a pet store. We discoverd that he was a water turtle. How he survived that long out of water is beyond me.

  • Yes, as a child I owned a pair of red-eared sliders and a painted turtle, not good pets if you have stingy parents.
  • Yes I have one which I was given over 18 years ago. She is a Red Earred Slider and her name is Raphaella. I love her so much and I keep her in an 85 gallon aquarium with a heater and a very good filter. The tank is half full of water and there is a hanging platform for the turtle to bask on, under a heat lamp. I also have another special light in the tank for her which gives her Vitamin D. She is really big now and heavy. She knows me so well and swims like crazy when she sees me. I let her out in the yard in the summer for some sun. Of course, I enclose her in a big cage and watch her constantly and never leave her alone outside because some bird or other animal could snatch her up and take her away. I would very much miss her and would feel so bad if this happened. So I make sure she is safe always. She is a wonderful pet and I enjoy watching her. She does not hibernate at all because the water is warm. She lays eggs two or three times per year. She takes some work, but is sure worth it.
