  • I'll leave it to others to speak for their own denominations, but Latter-day Saints (Mormons) see marriage as an institution that is supposed to continue into the next life. We believe that the family is a fundamental unit of organization that is eternal in nature. We can expect to enjoy the same family relations in heaven as we do here. As for divorce, we see it as something to be avoided. Because of our view of the eternal nature of the family, we believe in emphasizing the importance of making the right decision up front and then trying to work through problems as they come. However, we also recognize that too often, people don't make the right choice in a spouse. The spouse may have insurmountable faults (i.e. be abusive, adulterous, etc.) that he/she does not want to change. In such cases, divorce may be the only choice. It's sad when a marriage doesn't work out, especially if there are children involved. However, divorce is better than staying in a bad situation that teaches children that immoral and/or abusive behavior is acceptable.
  • In the Bible, it says that the only two (2) reasons that you could divorce your spouse are for infidelity (unfaithfulness) and if they're not a Christian. If you divorce your spouse for another reason besides these two and you marry somebody else, then that is adultery. That's what they mean in the marriage vows, "Till death do us part." You're supposed to be with your husband/wife until one of them die.
  • Different "so-called Christian denominations" would say different things, but to see what Christianity says, we must see what the Bible, and what Jesus say on the subject: Mark 10:2 And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. 3 And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? 4 And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. 5 And Jesus answered and said unto them, For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. 6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; 8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. 10 And in the house his disciples asked him again of the same matter. 11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her. 12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery. Also, Mormons would say that marriage lasts eternally. This is, however, an unBiblical concept. But judge for yourselves: Luke 20:34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.
