  • Never ever heard of that, but if there is a Heaven, I am sure that is not the case as fara s only allowing 144,000 people!
  • no it's not true....i don't know where that idea came from but it's definantly not true...Heaven doesn't have an amount of people it can hold...it's infinite
  • This is a common belief held by Jehovah's Witnesses. It comes from the Bible, specifically Rev 7 & 14. But a lot of religions have different beliefs on this. You can find more on this belief at these websites and make your own decision. http://www.christianlibrary.org/authors/John_L_Kachelman_Jr/rev16.htm http://www.macgregorministries.org/jehovahs_witnesses/144000_anointed.html http://www.letusreason.org/JW21.htm
  • To how many does the Bible hold out hope of heavenly life? Luke 12:32: “Have no fear, little flock, because your Father has approved of giving you the kingdom.” Rev. 14:1-3: “I saw, and, look! the Lamb [Jesus Christ] standing upon the Mount Zion [in heaven; see Hebrews 12:22-24], and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads. . . . And they are singing as if a new song . . . and no one was able to master that song but the hundred and forty-four thousand, who have been bought from the earth.” What will those who go to heaven do there? Rev. 20:6: “They will be priests of God and of the Christ, and will rule as kings with him for the thousand years.” (Also Daniel 7:27) 1 Cor. 6:2: “Do you not know that the holy ones will judge the world?” Rev. 5:10: “You made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they are to rule as kings over [“on,” RS, KJ, Dy; “over,” AT, Da, Kx, CC] the earth.” (The same Greek word and grammatical structure is found at Revelation 11:6. There RS, KJ, Dy, etc., all render it “over.”) http://www.watchtower.org/library/w/2000/10/1/article_02.htm
  • The apostle John tells us: “I saw, and, look! the Lamb standing upon the Mount Zion, and with him a hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads. . . . And they are singing as if a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders; and no one was able to master that song but the hundred and forty-four thousand, who have been bought from the earth. . . . These are the ones that keep following the Lamb no matter where he goes. These were bought from among mankind as firstfruits to God and to the Lamb, and no falsehood was found in their mouths; they are without blemish.”—Revelation 14:1-5. NWT Why take the number 144,000 mentioned in the book of Revelation literally and not symbolically? At Revelation 7:4 The apostle John wrote: “I heard the number of those who were sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand.” In the Bible, the phrase “those who were sealed” refers to a group of individuals who are chosen from among mankind to rule with Christ in heaven over the coming Paradise earth. See (2 Corinthians 1:21, 22; Revelation 5:9, 10; 20:6) Their number, 144,000, is understood literally for several reasons. One is found by checking the immediate context of Revelation 7:4. After the apostle John was told in vision about this group of 144,000 individuals, he was shown another group. John describes this second group as “a great crowd, which no man was able to number, out of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues.” This great crowd refers to those who will survive the coming “great tribulation,” which will destroy the present wicked world.—Revelation 7:9, 14. Note, however, the contrast that John draws between verses 4 and 9 of Revelation chapter 7. He states that the first group, “those who were sealed,” has a definite number. However, the second group, “a great crowd,” is without a definite number. With that in mind, it is logical to take the number 144,000 to be literal. If the number 144,000 were symbolic and referred to a group that is actually numberless, the force of the contrast between those two verses would be lost. Thus, the context strongly indicates that the number 144,000 must be taken literally. Various Bible scholars, past and present, Such as , British lexicographer Dr. Ethelbert W. Bullinger and , Robert L. Thomas, Jr agree that i the number is literal. I have met members of various fundamentalist Christian groups that also accept this number. Remember what it is that people will do who are resurrected to a heavenly life. Yes, what do ones due who are blessed with a heavenly hope? In my ministry, I meet a number of people who claim to have this hope. Sometimes I ask them, “What will you be doing after you get to heaven”? I usually get a response like, “I don’t know, I guess that I will find out when I get there”. That is an honest answer, but I feel that it is a little weak for someone who plans to be in heaven with Christ Jesus, especially when the right answer is found in the Bible. Where do we see what humans resurrected to heavenly life will be doing in heaven? Turn in your Bible to Revelation 20:4, 6: The Bible shows that Christ will not be alone to judge “the living and the dead.” Describing an inspired vision, the apostle John wrote: “And I saw thrones, and there were those who sat down on them, and power of judging was given them. Yes, I saw the souls of those executed with the ax for the witness they bore to Jesus and for speaking about God, and those who had worshiped neither the wild beast [Satan’s political organization] nor its image and who had not received the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand. And they came to life and ruled as kings with the Christ for a thousand years. Happy and holy is anyone having part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no authority, but they will be priests of God and of the Christ, and will rule as kings with him for the thousand years.” When you consider that the priesthood in ancient Israel was limited to the tribe of Levi, and that the ones serving as kings would also be limited in number, than it makes sense that for the vast majority of mankind, their future will be here on a cleansed earth. Some on this Website have confused or misrepresented the long held and clear position of Jehovah’s Witnesses regarding their understanding of the Bible’s hope for the earth’s future. Some have said here that Jehovah’s Witnesses “scare people” even “scare their kids” by teaching them about Armageddon. Excuse me, if you feel that way., you need to take your argument up line. It is God the Father and Jesus who convey a powerful message in Revelation,. We as Jehovah’s Witnesses just carry that message to our neighbors. It is a message of true hope delivered in a timely manner so that those who hear the message can act upon it. Since the future of the earth is that it will continue to be the home of the vast majority of mankind – the Great Crowd who come out of Armageddon, we believe that the earth will survive the nuclear threat; it will survive mankind’s continued environmental degradation. The earth will survive these threats only because God’s Kingdom through Christ Jesus will act.
  • Well, according to Jehovah's Witnesses it is, but don't worry because the number's a bit like Easter, it's a moveable feast.
  • I find it amusing how some people take scripture from the bible and bend it to their own beliefs. You must realize that the truth is in the word. Therefore read the word for yourselves (I fully encourage it because it will make you grow spiritually). As for the 144,000 people getting into heaven question, this is a Myth derived from people not reading and studying the word of God. When you read the word it should be a sacred thing to you. Reading, praying, spending time with god, etc.... Below I have provided more detail about what God has revealed to me relating to this 144,000 "Myth". First of all I notice that a few of you have posted some scripture from rev 7:4 to back up your claim as to this. Well that's nice and all but go back and read the entire chapter of revelations 7! The 144,000 are the bonds men of Christ. Essential they will be left behind, sealed, and protected from harm to give the non-believers another chance and to judge them(To bail them out if they so choose). However, if you continue reading rev chapter 7:9 it goes on to say: After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from (N)every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing (O)before the throne and (P)before the Lamb, clothed in (Q)white robes, and (R)palm branches were in their hands; 10and they cry out with a loud voice, saying, "(S)Salvation to our God (T)who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." 11And all the angels were standing (U)around the throne and around (V)the elders and the (W)four living creatures; and they (X)fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12saying, "(Y)Amen, (Z)blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever (AA)Amen." 13Then one of the elders (AB)answered, saying to me, "These who are clothed in the (AC)white robes, who are they, and where have they come from?" 14I said to him, "My lord, you know." And he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the (AD)great tribulation, and they have (AE)washed their robes and made them (AF)white in the (AG)blood of the Lamb. Now notice how it says "A great multitude which no one could count" and then let's you know they are the ones who have accepted Jesus. Well if no one could count them then it must be a lot higher number then 144,000. I mean I could count one hundred billion people if I had too. Just remember, any time your in doubt about something go back and read the whole chapter and pray that the spirit will reveal all to you. God promises to give wisdom to all who ask for it. Also remember that it is prophesized that in the last days there will be people and religious faiths who twist the word around... That is why its always a good idea to go back and read it for yourself and study on your own time. And one more important note… Please don’t forget that Jesus has promised all who believe and profess with their mouths that Jesus is lord shall not perish but have everlasting life. I call all believers who are confused about getting to heaven to read this in the name of Jesus.
  • No it's not true. You cannot take the words of the JW's as being true. In fact, you'ld be better off not to have anything to do with the JW's, they're bad news.
  • Man, if only 144,000 people go to heaven, then isn't it sorta pointless to even try? What would those 144,000 people be like... I am not sure if I would hang out with that bunch...
  • The 12 tribes of Israel are mentioned, 12,000 members from each tribe. In the first place, if we accept the literal figure of 144,000 then to be consistent we should also accept the literal tribes of Israel mentioned. Since all tribal distinctions have been obliterated after the Dispersion in A.D. 70, it is no longer possible to distinguish separate tribes in the original sense. Nor were the descendants of Joseph and Levi numbered among the inheritance of Israel's twelve tribes, although they are found here as substitutes for Dan and Ephraim. Keep these things in mind. Twelve tribes of Israel and twelve apostles were chosen to introduce both the Old and New Testaments. The 144,000 is the square of twelve multiplied a thousandfold. Therefore 144,000 represents all the redeemed from both the Old and New Testament times. They represent the true church, undefiled by the world, separate from evil and joined in holy wedlock to Christ. The literal interpretation of this Scripture would demand the elimination of all married men and the exclusion of all women. The men must be "celibates." A further stipulation requires the Father's name in their foreheads and the ability to sing the new song which only the redeemed could master. So we have 144,000 people of Jewish ancestry selected equally from twelve specified tribes that no longer exist due to assimilation, and all of them celibates. This is literally what it says, and for those who claim to believe the Bible literally, this is what they must accept as conditions required. God is the census taker and He wants to know where you were born. If you were born (born again) in Zion, it makes you a citizen of the Kingdom of God , a member of the church which is the Body of Christ. You accept all the responsibility of a follower of Christ, and you receive all the privileges and protection afforded through citizenship in Zion, both in this world and in the world to come. Your birth certificate will be sealed by the Holy Spirit and this is your passport to heaven. No wonder the recipients sing a new song which only the redeemed could learn. This seal, citizenship and song separates this group from all other people on earth. This seal is the evidence of membership in this select number. It is the exclusive mark of the redeemed. You see, the number 144,000 is not to be understood as a literal number, but a number symbolizing the complete totality and fundamental unity of all the redeemed for all time. The number if not limited to mathematical exactness, but it symbolizes completeness, which the tribal compositions indicate by their meanings that they produce the fruit of the Spirit. Only such a group could be called the "firstfruits." Only the redeemed could be said to be without guile and without fault before God, as the passage asserts. Truth in symbol is just as valid as truth in any other attire.
  • I wouldn't like to be amongst the 144,000 boring and holy people. Id rather not be there. It won't be fun
  • No. The 144k are selected people to preach the Word of God during the Great Tribulation to save more souls in the name of Jesus. The antichrist and/or demons will not be able to do any harm on them. There is a false docrine of demons created by the JW to confuse souls in the final days. They say that only 144k will be the ones going to heaven. Totally wrong and absurd! My 2 cents.
  • You know what? thats what my pastor used to say, but then i did some study and find that john was refering to the twelve tribe of israel...from each tribe, twelve thousand of them will be saved....but if you continue reading in REVELATION 7 VERSE 9, it says "after this i looked and there before me a great multitude that no one can count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing befoer the throne and in front of the lamb." there you go, it clearly stated that theres going to be a great multitude that no one cannot count...
  • Well I would like to point something out. I'm not sure about the truth of the 144,000 but you have to consider these things: Why would God create a new earth if everybody was going to heaven Matt 5:5 " Happy are the mild tempered ones, since they will inherit the earth" Psalms 37:11 " But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth " I would also like to point out the scriptures of the resurrection: 1 Corinthians 15:21-23, 1 Thessalonians 4:16, Revelation 20: 5-6 So tell me, how can you be resurrected from the dead if your spirit is already alive in heaven?

  • Christian math. To them, 144,000 could be either 144 million or 144 or 1.44
  • Christianity is a Designer religion. That means each individual designs it to fit there own needs Good or Bad. So whatever you feel comfortable with is a good or bad answer depending on what your looking for.
  • NO, the 144,000 people who are spoken of in the bible are decendents at that time of 12 tribes, each containing 12members.The number isnt an exact depliction of how many will go to heaven..If you are saved at the time of the Tribulation or what is know as Armageadon you will have a place in heaven.. Sheila
  • No. The 144,000 is 12,000 from each of the 12 tribes. Rev 7:9 No one was able to count how many people there were. They were standing in front of the throne and the lamb.
  • If it's true and in the bible i suggest you either begin kicking the asses of bible thumpers so often they get pissed off and sin BADLY or stop buying the nonsense and get on with your one and only life you have right now. But hey, don't take my word for it.. Only Rev Patty boy knows all, sees all and all that hogwash.
  • No , 144k people are not going to heaven , some how they mis understude the scripture in Rev. remember people this idea comes from the Jehovah Witness, the same cult who said the world was going to end in 1914, then 1915, then 1975 they are the same cult who say our Lord Jesus is not God. but when we read Jonh 1:1 it tells us the the Word was GOD. also in the book of John Jesus tells is I am the Father are ONE.
  • Think this guys, of your Boss made a travel outside the country, are all personnel in the office can go wtih him? The normal situation is... The Boss will chose whose with him in his travel his workers cannot push themselves to be part of Boss Travel. Its same situation not all inhabitants on earth after death may go to heaven to be with him. Our creator selects, the selected one or the favorable one to be part of the Kingdom in Heaven... and the number is ....144,000 human beings will be with god and become sprits, they transform from flesh to spirits after their death. I Wish you guys understand my little idea. Thank you.
  • I would like to ask a Jehovah witness to explain how they got selected to be the 144,000 that get to go to heaven. Are the apostols and others that were saved in the Book of Acts in Heaven?
  • Where are the Christians at that were saved in these verses.Acts 2:41, Acts 4:4 Acts 21:20 There are many in Heaven now and will continue to be as many as are called. Christians please do not let anyone tell you what to believe, read the Bible even Jehovah Witnesses believe it is writen so simple a child can understand it. Do not be deceived into thinking you need help to undestand. We have individual Christians. Not Groups.
  • When the Bible is studied it needs to be taken as a complete book. I believe the Old Testament was fulfilled by the new. Also who is in Heavan now? Arent there supposed to be 144,000 Jehovah Witnesss there now, give or take a few thousand? I still cant find out how these folk are Jehovah Witnesses
  • I'm not sure but if my religion told me that space was limited I certainly wouldn't be going door to door trying to get more people to join up.
  • I have another question for a Jehovah Witness or actually any one who cares to answer. In an early book of Pastor Russelll. The finished Mystery,1917. It is stated there were already over 8000,000 martyrs. So Heaven had no room for the Jehovah Wittnesses that died before 1935.(comments) Heres another problem that is causing concern. The Bible states the wages of Sin is death. I know what Christians other than Jehovah Witnesses believe. But it appears some believe you need to die to pay your sin debt. The Jehovah Wittnesses currently believe the end is near and the Wittnesses alive now will not have to die but go straight into Paradise. How is their Sin debt paid?
  • In relation to what previous posts have stated concerning how many will go to heaven, you also have to realize that the earth that we live on was created by God for a definite purpose. It will not be destroyed. Nor will God allow mankind to bring it to ruin. It was made for us 'human beings' to live on. And that is what will happen after armageddon and judgement day. Remember the 'Our Father' prayer that you were taught as a kid? ...let your will be done ON EARTH, as in HEAVEN, let your kingdom come... This relates to God's purpose for humans to continue to live on the earth, after it is restored to it's paradise state that he originally created for man. The 144,000 who will go to heaven aren't going there to just float around and sing songs. They will have a job to do assisting Jesus in governing over the world.
