  • IMO Yes, yes and yes. Don't get me wrong. Believe what you will. Study, learn, live.
  • If God were a figment of man's imagination, wouldn't He have gone by the wayside like so many other stories/fantasies? The Jewish Pharisees understood this, and decided to leave the early Christians alone, reasoning that if their movement was of man, it would fade away on its own, but if it were of God, nothing they could do would ever stop it. That reasoning is still sound today.
  • what if man is a figment of God's imagination? What if the Atheist Church of America had a bake sale? And regarding brainwashing, the local drycleaners has a 50% off sale on your brainwashing.
  • Maybe man is a figment of God's imagination. I've noticed that most people could do with a good brain wash and scrub down. And, also, that most people that claim that they are smarter are some of the dumbest a**holes I have ever met.
  • No, depends, and yes. I'm agnostic: I have no opinion on religion, but, god is a very real figure to people, not an imaginary best friend, not a pretend thing. God is not something a young child came up with, God is real to them, period. Religious brainwashing by churches depends on the church. Preaching what you believe in to those who willingly come to your congregation is not brainwashing, necessarily. And it is an established fact that lesser educated people are easier to brainwash: psychological studies have proven this fact. Having been brainwashed, however, does not mean a person is stupid, but the simpler brainwashing techniques are more likely to work on a person of lesser intelligence than on a more learned person.
  • The great thing about this question is no one can prove anything whereas everyone will agree. The questions you ask, every person has asked themselves and formed their own opinion. I can tell you my opinion and so can everyone on this site but it will be up to you what you deserve to believe. The only way you can be sure is to remove all outside sources and get in touch with yourself. Search your heart without thinking what is cool and what is not. Putting aside what anyone else says or thinks because the answer resides in you.
  • Has anyone seen god or talked to god. I have heard some christians say that if you ever look upon gods face he will destroy you. Now if that is true I guess there will never be anyone to witness seeing the face of god and confirming that he is real.
  • Yes, yes and yes. Keep in mind also that there are people who choose not to see the truth and prefer to go thru life with eyes wide shut. If you look in this section, you'll see plenty of examples of that
  • Yes, I'm sure the lesser educated [is] much easier to brainwash. By the way, I'm third generation college educated, graduated cum laude and I'm halfway to a master's. I believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, born of woman, crucified, died, buried and rose again.
  • 1) Until the first shred of evidence is provided for any of the 1000s of deities: yes 2) The last 2,000 years have shown without much doubt that belief in various deities certainly has been used as a control system; as for whether it is 'nothing more' than this, see (1) 3) Look at any graph of religious belief plotted against a person's education - there is a very strong correlation between level of education and non-belief. The above appears to be a causation: without education many people will never develop the ability to think critically (it requires practice). There are also correlations between increased belief and crime, murder, teenage pregnancy, STD etc (see US v Sweden, Japan etc) but these are more likely caused by the surrounding belief-friendly environment (poverty, lack of education etc) than belief itself.
  • God is a figment of ones imagination only if one chooses that to be so. And if a person looks at religion as being nothing more than brainwashing then they have already decided that God is a figment of their imagination. Intelligence has little to do with it. It's a simple matter of what "you" choose. I know I know, there have been studies that say differently. Linking religious belief and intelligence in this way could reflect a dangerous trend, developing a simplistic characterization of religion as primitive, which - while we are trying to deal with very complex issues of religious and cultural pluralism - is perhaps not the most helpful response.
