For me personally, etiquette is a lot of meaningless rules imposed in the past to reinforce antiquated class divisions. Manners matter, etiquette does not.

I was going to say manners but upon reflection it is more about how others expect you behave in a given situation.

Etiquette to me means, mannerisms pertaining to a particular function within the context of cultural relevance to a particular society. i.e, dinner mannerisms of going out to a fine dinning restarant, where one is required to wear a tie, and or formal dress ware for women.

It means being gracious, thoughtful and never trying to embarrass anyone for any reason. It means being polite, kind and aware. It doesn't mean using the right fork for fish to me, but having the right attitude and treating others with respect. :)
