I for one, do not dislike Mormons. I do not agree with their doctrines, but several of my dearest friends are Mormons and I highly value them and their integrity.

A mormon is a follower of Mormonism. Look it up, for their controveries.

A Mormon (that's a nickname originally given by enemies) is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). . We are Christians with beliefs about God and Jesus Christ, where we came from, who we are, and where we are going that differ from the majority of Christian denominations. . Many find these differences intolerable. Perhaps they fear we are right, which would mean they are wrong. . I'll be glad to answer specific questions, but for a good general outline of who we are, where we came from and what we believe visit: http://mormon.org and http://lds.org

Joseph Smith was a fraud and an EisegeteEndori, Mormonism is no more a Christian religion than Bruce Jenner is a woman. For decades the LDS did everything they could to distance them selves from being called Christian. Yet, now that there may be some benefit from claiming (that is CLAIMING) Christianity. They have done a complete 180 turnaround. The same thing they will do with any one of their alleged beliefs. What ever it takes to appear Godly, no matter what lie you need to tell.

Glenn BlaylockFor any who may come along after this, it should be noted that Joe Fraud (as many of us refer to the above user) was a very bitter man. He was steeped in anti-Mormon propaganda and was very angry that his own son was a member of the Church. He could not convince his son to change. So, he came here and took his anger out on the rest of us.

Ex--mormon here. Mormons believe that the days of Prophets didn't stop with Jesus. And that technically, even today- Prophecy is still ongoing. They have what they call several "additions" to the Bible: Book Of Mormon, Pearl of Great Price, Doctrine and Covenants. And the hatred? There is a great void between what they say, and what actually happens.

Joseph Smith was a fraud and an Eisegete
There books, written by Joseph Smith's imagination, is riddled with racism, womanizing, hatred, legitimized murder, theft etc.

Being at the extreme end of the Christian faiths, many of the Mormon beliefs are very hard to swallow, even more so than your bog standard Christian beliefs. It is hard for many outside of the religion to try and comprehend their beliefs, as they not only clash head on with science but with the teachings of the other Christian faiths. From those I have talked to it would also seem that Mormons are totally unwilling to accept any scientific evidence as proof of anything, but instead insist that just about anything not in the bible is lies created by evil man or the devil, without being able to give any reason better than it’s incorrect because it’s contrary to what is in the bible and therefore what they believe. Edit Mormons also don't do themselves any favours by deliberately miss interrupting scientific work in an attempt to ridicule or disprove it. I have seen myself cursing over their version of many theories as they lie and twist facts in order to try and justify what they believe.

Mormonism is not a Christian religion. It is pagan. -

[Rolls eyes] Oh brother. I got both my Bachelor and my Master of Science degrees in Geology from Brigham Young University. For those who might not be familiar with that school, it is owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (i.e. the Mormons). In none of the science classes that I took there was there any significant discussion of trying to fit what we are told through science with what we are told in the Bible. For example, in none of my classes did anyone try to push the idea that Earth is only 6,000 years old (something that would be required from a literal interpretation of the Bible). All of my professors accept that Earth is 4.6 billion years old and that they Universe is even older than that. I like all of my science professors have taken the attitude that we don't know just how everything fits together and that the Bible was not meant to be a science textbook. Thus, we can see why I roll my eyes at The Scottsman's answer here. He is showing just how little he actually knows about our beliefs.

A Mormon is someone who believes The Book of Mormon is Scripture. Often it is used exclusively for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LdS) - the largest sect in the Mormon denomination. Mormonism differs from mainstream Christianity in a few key areas, so many mainstream Christians argue that Mormonism is not a Christian denomination and hate Mormonism because of its claims to being Christian. Among the differences: 1. Scriptures not included in the Bible. All Mormon sects use the Bible and The Book of Mormon as Scripture. Many Mormon sects have additional volumes of Scripture as well (The LdS have The Pearl of Great Price and The Doctrine and Covenants). 2. Mormonism does not feel bound to the Nicene Creed, or any other Creed which originated after the Apostolic Age. Most importantly, Mormonism does not subscribe to the Trinity, but rather to a Godhead (The Father, The Son, and the Holy Ghost are separate individuals working in unison). 3. Mormonism claims to be a Restoration from a world-wide Apostasy. In essence, this is a claim that all other denominations have a corrupted or incomplete Gospel PLUS lack the Priesthood to perform ordinances like baptism and the other Sacraments. 4. Mormonism teaches that one must put his faith in action in order to be saved; a simple proclamation that Jesus is Lord is not enough.

Just another whacked cult. And I'd imagine the dislike comes from the X-ians, they dislike, hate and try to destroy everything

Mormons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mormons are our family members, our friends, our colleagues and our neighbors we do NOT dislike them. In fact I love Mormons. However, I take great umbrage at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (aka "LdS Church"), LdS Theology, it's deceptive leaders, and at times the behavior of it's members. There are good reasons for this: 1) The LdS Church has been identified as a Mind Control Cult by numerous SECULAR Exit Cult Counselors as well as Ex-Members. http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=80005&catid=532 http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=80003&catid=532 http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=80001&catid=532 http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=79855&catid=532 2) From a religious perspective the LdS Church is also considered a Cult due to it's unorthodox and heretical theology. http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=73131&catid=10 3) Mormon Critics, like myself, feel the need to warn others, like the questioner, about the LdS Church due to the deliberately deceptive practices that their Leaders use with the public as well as the well-meaning but equally deceptive practices of rank and file members - such as those that you may see on AB. http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=78122&catid=527 http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=76225&catid=527 http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=75644&catid=527 http://www.concernedchristians.com/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=42&func=view&id=73175&catid=527 4) Finally, probably the biggest issue that Mormon Critics (such as the author) have with the LdS Church is how the institution and it's members deceptively masquerade as "Christians". The problem here is simple: The LdS Church and it's members use Christian terms, forms, and concepts but either change their meaning and/or change the content. For example you might be interested to know that the "Jesus" in the name "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" hasn't always been divine and was procreated along with his brother Lucifer. http://www.ontruth.com/mrm1.html This is just one small example of how the LdS uses Christian terms, forms, and concepts but either changes their meaning and/or changes the content behind the words. Dislike? Hardly! Contend with? Gladly! Expose? Regularly! Oppose? If necessary. And now you can sit back and enjoy the show as the Mormons on AB attempt to defuse, vilify, confuse, and distract the non-Mormon public from the factual assertions and consensus based evidence that I have provided above.

Mormonism... http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/7410967 contrary to edndori... Is a mind controlling cult. One of IMHO the most blasphemous of all cults. There doctrine not only contradicts that of Christianity, it also contradicts itself. The Book of Mormon is a plagiarized fiction novel that contradicts the bible. The Pearl of Great price was Joey's way of adding more ways to glorify himself and exalt himself. Adding such wonders as adultery, polygamy, mans exaltation, their gods Pre existence as a man, endless gods etc etc etc. They love to change more often than the seasons. As a matter of fact, they didn't even attempt to align with the word Christian till the 70's. Before that they did everything they could to declare that they were not Christians. There is so much about these Morgs, it would fill volumes of novels. As a matter of fact I can think of 3 fiction novels Book of Mormon Pearl of great Price and Doctrine and Covenants.

Put simply, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It's hard to say why people don't like them; I've heard different accounts. Some people think Mormons are going to Hell and should be treated like vermin, my friend's pastor doesn't like us because we convert too many people, some have been offended by their beliefs or their members, some just don't like the idea that the Bible is second to anything, some people are just intolerant of any religion that's not htier own so that they not only hate mormons but any other religion out there. The list goes on and on and on. Just a side-note: The Extermination Order, an act passed in Missouri that said that any and all Mormons could be legally murdered, was started by someone who was offended by a Mormon. Any of the things I listed can be some serious stuff, prompting a lot of anti-Mormon words and products.

Because they keep showing up at my house asking me if I want to live in a better place. Oops, my bad that's Jehovah's Witness.
-
Because they're one "m" away from being a moron. I'm shittin' ya. Whatever beliefs people need to keep them from going on a killing spree, is okay by me. That's their business. Stay the hell out of mine.

The world and even other Christians take offense to what they don't like or may disagree with. I don't see 100% truth in any organized religion and the individual errors which each has is what Satan uses against us to bring division so the government has more strength to crush each sect individually without taking on every Christian about a certain issue. Satan is the real mastermind behind the divisions and why people dislike one another. Satan has learned that conquering Christians is much easier when you have previously caused divisions between them first. - Ephesians 6:12 (New International Version) "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." As soon as Satan can start a controvercy over a bible teaching, people start becoming divided and hate and won't stand up for those they feel are wrong. The next step is Satan attacks the smaller weaker group and oppresses them......just like Hitler went after first one group and then another....if everyone had stood together against him he wouldn't have conquered as many people as he did. Satan uses the gov't to divide and conquer various denominations of Christians. Prayer in school, abortion, homosexuality, gay marriage, the list goes on.......all intended as topics to divide people so they won't fight against strongholds which are setting themselves up against the knowledge of God (See 2Cor 10:4-6)

It's just another religion, as irrational as all the others.

alright wtf?? I asked a question like this originally and now it's someone else' question?? What happened?? Now every time someone answers this person's ? I get notified like it were mine. It's flooding my inbox (and no I can't make it stop b/c it won't let me or else I would). Thank you for answering but now I think there are enough. There is enough information about who Mormons are and enough about why some people dislike them.
-
I know why I dislike them. Cause they messed up my life. As I am not able to post a comment after the other comments, I shall post it here. You know nothing about me so I'm not bothered by your comments ;) I'll give you a short version. My mom was converted when I was 4, as a result she divorced my dad beecause the church wanted her to. Then she married this paedophile whom she thought was the best man on earth because he was a mormon and mormons believe their men are better then other men... etc. only an exmormon would know what I'm takling about anyway... then we moved country because of this man, who then did stuff to mess up our lives more, also I was fed mormon rubbish for most of my childhood and teenage years, indoctrinated to becoma a good doormat ,) My life is not quite so messed up, but the messed up part comes from the mormon church you see! ... only an ex mormon would know....
-
I ave problems with what they have done to their members who admitted being gay and what they are trying to do to gay rights ( civil rights ) I dislike the religion intensely as well as the leaders. Not the members.
-
If there were a reason to dislike the Latter Day (sorry, can't bring my self to write the next word), it would be how they have spent there whole history walking all over Jesus Christ and God. And the fact that they are so extremely arrogant. Yet it is not the LDS people that Christians (I can not speak for anyone else) do not like, it is the church and doctrine of Mormonism that is so loathed.
-
As a Pastor, and, former Mormon, who saw the real truth, would have to say that perhaps some of the reason for the dislike of Mormons is that I believe when they really delve into the Mormon belief, and, really search for the truth, they will see that much of the teach of the Mormon church does not line up to the Holy Bible. They generally prefer to read the Book of Mormon, and, although they claim to read the Holy Bible, did not see much of this when I was a Mormon. A lot of their teachings do not line up with the Word of God, and, I believe anyone who is truly seeking the TRUTH, will run away from becoming involved for this reason. When you read the scriptures found in the Holy Bible, and, really seek the truth, I think this will show why people tend to shy away from becoming a Mormon. Pray on this, and, let God show you His answer would be my real suggestion. Pastor Patty

Because they are hypocrites and the elders are deceitful.
-
Some of the nicest people I have ever met are Mormons. Bastards.
-
They don't admit to the truth even when shown, they'll cloud the issue and refuse to understand or duck, dodge and pull the hokey pokey. They demand (Yes they DEMAND) tithing other wise you're not a "good little sheeple member" The send you a "Bill" when they build the next temple. They sent my mother 22 "Bills" )Even though we'd left those idiots long ago) for a long time. Imagine, a Mother of Three, whose husband is dead and has a house/car/food bill and they think "Oh she can afford $2,500 hundred a YEAR??" BULLEFFINGSH*T!!! Say something against the "Prophet" and you will be in danger of excommunication. Tell the truth of the religion and you WILL be excommunicated! If it was a choice between them and Islamic, I'd be an atheist!!!
-
My guess? = The incessant unsolicited proselytizing. ;-)
-
Because they claim to be Christian, bottom line and don't believe the same. They use the name Christian to suck people in. They should just say they are LDS nothing more, nothing less and then they would not be hatted. I believe they would probably get more people. But they lie and try to cover stuff up. Too much to list, sorry. It would be like me using Microsoft's name on some software I made up. It would get people at least looking at it, the popularity is there. But the problem is it's not illegal to call yourself anything.

This answer has to many threads, way to long, so I thought I would start a new... with a couple interjections added. http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/7410967 <<The nickname "Mormon" is appearently not offensive to ...well Mormons, they use the term as regularly as anyone else. Whether or not it was started by enemies or the general population, I have no idea.>>> A Mormon (that's a nickname originally given by enemies) is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). <<Mormons seperated themselves from the word Christian. (Alma 18:26-28) The Doctrine and Covenants: "The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man's; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit .... First, I have Mormons in my family my brother and his family. I do not like the others (missionaries) showing up at my door because I have seen too many of them trying to look into my house through the blinds and made a few of them jump after I let them know I was seeing them. Plus they would rather talk about and push the Book Of Mormon than talk about Jesus.
