    The stretch of coast that was given the codename Omaha Beach is about 5 miles long and I don't think it has a specific name in French. It stretches from near Sainte-Honorine-des-Pertes, to a point beyond Vierville-sur-Mer near the estuary of the River Douve.

    it would translate as 'plage d'omaha' plage meaning beach in french. update. aparently omaha beach was the code name. for 'coleville sur mer'.. 'sur mer' means by the sea. this is where the us cemetry is situated above the beach.
