The next things to look at would be the CAM sensor and the Crank sensor. These are what tell the computer what to fire with all of the components that you mentioned. These are very common problems on Ford Rangers. I own a 1992 Ranger. I spoke to my very capable mechanic about this. Do not be surprised if you end up paying up to $200 to replace the sensor. That is what they go for. Hold onto that Ranger. I have 211,000 miles on mine.
