  • A belief is simply an idea you hold with strong feeling. You hold the idea to be true. It has nothing to do with whether the idea is related to religion in any manner. The idea that the floor will accept your weight when you get out of bed in the morning is a belief. The idea that when you put your coffee in the microwave for a minute and a half, it will come out hot, is a belief. The idea that when you lean backward and fall into the chair that it will support you, is a belief. Religion is a man made system of beliefs, doctrines, and dogma specifically centered around the idea of God and the spiritual nature of the universe. Followers of a religion choose to adapt the beliefs, doctrines, and dogma related to God which are provided by the religion as their own for as long as they profess to follow that religion. On occasion, the personal beliefs of an individual are found to conflict with the beliefs taught by the religion. When this happens, people sometimes chose to either abandon the religion or they find another religion which is more in harmony with their personal beliefs.
