  • My answer is based on California law, but I assume it's similar in most other jurisdictions. Calling someone with the intent to harass is a misdemeanor (Penal Code section 653m). It's punishable by up to 6 months in the county jail and/or a $1,000 fine. So - yes, technically, you could be arrested for prank calling.
  • I was.
  • Yes you can.
  • Q: So...what are you in for buddy? Murder? Grand larceny? Gun running? A: uh, prank calling...sir (gulp).
  • i did not get arrested for it but i did get in trouble with the police so its probably best not to do it because there is a possibility that u could get in big trouble!
  • Yes, and these days, everyone has caller ID and they will know who you are instantly. So don't even start.
  • Hello....is this Margaret? HEHEHE...It's me Margaret....HEHEHE.....You don't know me Margaret, but I know you...HEHEHE (Ray Stevens, you tube it)
  • Arresting Requirements: Life threatening,Sexual threatening,Sexual harassment(like actually be obscene, not just humor),Terroristic Threatening,Murderistic claims,Calling 911 or other emergency services, numerous callings, false advertising, impersonation Non-arresting requirements: Jokes,Just hanging up when they answer,Kidding with answerees,Just sitting there being silent,copy-catting. Jokes Disclaimer: Be careful with the sexual jokes, especially with females.Guys usually laugh but women for some reason take it sometimes seriously so be careful. This is not saying all women do but be careful when saying them in the first place. Reasoning: I did a prank call today with my buddy on a three way conference call on my iPhone. We call and they don't pick up(mistake when being prank called). So we leave a message saying: Daddy! I want a plunger for Christmas. He says: No,son,if you want a plunger so bad you can plunge my nuts. Nuts is the magic word that got me having a cop call my phone and telling me to knock it off.
  • If you are really disturbing, then yes, you can get arrested because mostly everyone has caller ID, and it doesn't matter if your Anonymous, Unknown or etc, you can still be traced for prank calling.
