  • In 1824, the city was renamed to Monrovia. It became the capital of Liberia July 26th, 1847.
  • 1824, after they changed our beautifully name of Cabo Mesurado! We never did find the Mines of King Salomon! :(
  • This is an interesting question! I believe it was during the years that President Monroe was in office....in 1824, the city, Cape Mesurado, was renamed Monrovia. It is the only Non_ American city named after a U.S. President....I also believe that he has some influence on the town, but Im not sure exactly... I think he boosted the population.
