  • English Silver has boxed-like Hallmarks, Usually three or more that indicate by design the area it was made and the age. If the mark says EPNS it means Electroplated nickel silver, If it says EPS it is electroplated silver. American silver and other European silver varies in its mark. American usually says Sterling or a number mark to measure the purity. Danish silver simply says DENMARK. Yours sound English by the Lions head which tells you where it was made, the letter R will tell you the year, but i don't know off hand what that is. An X usually marks early 19th c. I don't know off hand what the R means. Go to the library and look up English Silver marks or call your local antique shop and ask someone there.
