What... what sort of substances? There an immense number of molecules in life, and they vary drastically. What sorts of living organisms? Archaea, Bacteria or Eukaryota? As far as elements, the major elements are CHONPS, with trace elements and inorganics such as electrolytes (Na, Cl, K). As far as major categories, there are... proteins (inc. enzymes), hormones (inc. neurotransmitters), lipids (inc. lipid bilayer/phospholipids), carbohydrates, nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) as far as chemical structures go. There are the different tissues too, dependent on the organism, and even at the cellular level. Be a little more specific and I'll happily try to help!
