  • You may have difficulty sleeping because your are uneasy or have anxiety. When you are lying in bed try and not to think about anything.
  • I used to have that same problem, but I seem to have outgrown it. Are you going to bed when you feel tired? I usually go to bed when I'm exhausted. (though I dont think I'm getting enough sleep haha) When I'm exhausted my body can't do anything else BUT sleep. Another thing you could try is getting one of those "state-of-the-art" memory foam mattresses. Those companies always claim to help you sleep better. I found some good tips below: 1. Don?t watch TV or even so much as look at a computer screen atleast 30 minutes before you lie down. The light from both a television as well as a computer monitor mimic the same intensity of light as sunlight. This fools your body and brain into thinking it?s nowhere near time for sleep. 2. Drink milk. Milk has an amino acid in it called Tryptophan that increase the levels of serotonin and/or melatonin in the brain which slow down brain activity. It?s science folks. 3. Go to bed when you are tired. Different strokes for different folks here. Just because your wife goes to bed at 9PM doesn?t mean you are ready. You might only require seven and half hours of sleep while she might require ten. If you aren?t tired, do something low-key until you are, like read a book, play solitaire (NOT on your computer), or play with some legos. 4. Reserve the bed for bed things (ie sleep and sex). I for one don?t strictly follow this rule as I?ll read some before I go to sleep, but for some people this is a must. 5. Meditate. No, don?t cross your legs and hum, but focus on relaxing?if that makes sense. Take deep, long breaths. Tense each muscle one at a time from head to toe. Focusing on doing this takes your mind off of other things and you?ll be in lala land in no time. 6. Excercise during the day. I emphasize during the day. Excercising at night just gets everything going instead of shutting down for sleep. But excercising during the day tires the muscles out and makes for a solid nights sleep. Here are some more tips.. read on: -Reduce caffeine and sugar intake at night. Both act as stimulants, and the sugar can also make it difficult to get up in the morning. -Try using an alarm clock to remind you to GO to sleep. It is very important that you get enough sleep at night to get you through the next day. -Procrastination itself is stressful. Whatever you want to do tomorrow, try to do it today; whatever you want to do today, do it now. -Allow extra time for everything you have to do. If you think an assignment will take one hour, make sure you leave 1 1/2 to 2 hours to complete it. That way, you'll have extra time instead of being time pressured. -Say "NO!" to extra projects. If you don't volunteer to do that task for your organizations, someone else will! Saying no to projects that you don't have the time or energy for takes practice, self-respect, and a belief that everyone, everyday deserves time for themselves. -Make friends with non-stressed people. Nothing can promote anxiety faster than associating with other stressed-out people. -Check your breathing. Remember to breathe. Deep breathing helps to relax your entire body and reduce muscle tension. -Become more flexible. Some things are worth NOT doing perfectly, and some issues are well to compromise upon, whereas others are clearly priorities. -Allow yourself time ? everyday ? for privacy, quiet, and introspection. -If an especially "unpleasant" task faces you, get it over with early in the day. The rest of your day can then be less anxious. Do your most laborious homework assignment FIRST. • If you are an adult, try this: go to walmart(buy their store name, its cheaper) of .25 mg of antihistamine. take one an hour before bedtime. this has worked for me for the past 20 years. Antihistamine is effective and is non-additive. Let me know if it works, john
  • I have the same exact problem. I rarely, if ever, fall asleep in less than 30 minutes. It ususally takes me a good hour with the TV off to finally fall asleep. I've tried avoiding TV or reading, but neither aleviates the issue. I did find, however, that deep prayer or meditation while laying in the darkness helped me fall into sleep much easier. The only problem? I'd rather watch reruns of King of Queens than lay in bed thinking positive thoughts over and over. The funny thing is, I could lay down on the couch at 1 in the afternoon and doze right off, so I know I'm tired. There is something that wants to keep holding on to the day.... I have an active mind. So that's my input. Try some benadryl - dyphenhydramine is the active ingredient - it is also found in Tylenol PM. That should knock you out if you absolutely, positively have to go to sleep by a certain time. Otherwise, try getting less sleep in a night. When I get less than 7 hours, I fall asleep in like 45 minutes. But then I'm cranky and sluggish during the day. So, you have to decide what works for you. Honestly, the meditation thing works great, as long as you commit to doing it. Good luck.
  • God I know how you feel, it is a pain in the ass! I reckon you may be thinking too much as you go to sleep, so about an hour before you go to bed, try not to think about much, so your brain can slow down!
  • Also, I recommend tequila, and lots of it! And well, if you don't sleep, at least you can drown your sorrows!
  • melation( sleep cycle aid) , and talk to ur doctor , i have the same problem , but its takes me a 1-4 hours too go to sleep, ask for vistarl , is a anithisamine , that realves aniexty ,for 6 hours , it helps for me, other wise , charmilin/passion flower tea ,,,,,,helps lots
  • well , i don't know of any other treatment , sorry . But the best i can think of is count sheep. It may sound wierd , but it helps me, especially the day before my exams. SOmetimes i have the same problem too. Sorry :)
  • exercise 2 hrs. before bed take your shower turned down the lights, no stimulants in the bedroom, like tv.
  • I have sleeping problems too but i take this herb pill or vitamin or whatever it is at night and it relaxes me and makes me sleepy. Exercise is very important to make your body tired.
  • Drink warm beverages(water, herbal tea or milk). When laying down breathe deeply with your belly (and not your lungs, if you know what I mean). My husband counts backwards, from 100 to 0. It works well for him.
  • Don't think so much. Don't watch TV or listen to music to try getting yourself to sleep. You may get to sleep faster but your mind will still be active for a long time after you fall asleep, making your sleep a lot less satisfying. Go to sleep at the same time everyday. Don't eat before you go to bed, your metabolism can keep you awake. If you find this particularly true for you remember that fats take longer to digest and that a smaller meal will digest faster. Exercising earlier in the day can help you fall asleep faster at night. Exercise also helps relieve stress. Less stress = better sleep. If you can play around with how firm your bed is, do it. Another thing you can try doing is playing around with room temperature. For me I sleep much more soundly when I'm in a cold room but on the down side I'm much less willing to get out of my warm bed in the morning. Perfect for a Saturday or Sunday though. Try listening to white noise, kinda like a mother shushing her baby to sleep, it still works when your older.
  • I am a babysitter of a few kids every day . i find what helps me to fall asleep faster is putting some classical or symphony music on and turnning off all of the lights in the ehtire house.
  • Always read something before going to bed, if you can. It stimulates clearer thought, and it's the muddled thoughts that screw up your sleeping patterns. Music helps too, although it can keep you up late.
  • try to sleep w/ you socks on....i've heard that b4
  • No caffeine, no alcohol, lower your room temperature to 55 to 60 degrees (with a warm quilt and even a hot water bottle if you need it), take a 20 to 30 minute walk each night after dinner. Get ready for bed 1 hour before bedtime and read until lights out.
  • stay up all days weather you had to go work or not,and go the bed at 10.00pm and wake up 6.00am,so just try to keep doing that on time all the time.
  • I used to have a problem falling asleep. Now, I don't drink or eat past 6 pm. I go to bed at, or near the same time every night, and I wake at the same time every morning.... A bubble bath about an hour before bed is really relaxing too. Routine is key.
  • I find that if I really can't sleep, a good thing to do is; get a warm glass of something to drink, like a hot chocolate or something, and a book, get into bed, drink the drink and start reading, no music playing or anything else, and that should help relax your head and body, making it easier to sleep :) +5
