  • I think the Tomahawk was the older version, and then they renamed the newer ones Kittyhawk. Kittyhawk is also the name of an aircraft carrier.
  • A Tomahawk could be a type of Indian axe or a type of aircraft. A Kittyhawk is a type of aircraft also but not an axe.
  • All models Curtiss P-40 were called the Warhawk in US service. The names Tomahawk and Kittyhawk were only used by the British Commonwealth. YARNLADY is correct, the major difference between the two was the engine. The Tomahawk was used for all versions of the P-40 up to the Mark IIB (P-40C), while the various Kittyhawk marks were applied to the P-40D and later models.
