  • hi babieeeeee, it's highly unlikely that the bible addresses masterbation directly. If you were horny during biblical days, you just got married. Self pleasuring was frowned upon during biblical days as it is sometimes today. Only exception is that today's society tolerates most lifestyles.
  • 1) "6 Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar. 7 But Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the LORD's sight; so the LORD put him to death. 8 Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother." 9 But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother. 10 What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also." Source: Genesis 38 (New International Version) http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?book_id=1&chapter=38&version=31 2) "In the Biblical Book of Genesis, Onan (Hebrew: אוֹנָן, Standard Onan Tiberian ʾװnān ; Strong) was the second son of Judah. Certain interpretations of the narrative concerning him have led to the use of the term onanism to refer to masturbation. According to the text, after God had killed Onan's older brother Er, Judah asked Onan to have sex with Tamar, Er's former wife, so that the offspring could be declared Er's heir. The narrative implies that Onan didn't object to the sex itself, but performed coitus interruptus, spilling his seed upon the ground, so that there wouldn't be any offspring he couldn't claim as his own; the passage goes on to state that for this act, a displeased Yahweh killed him. The deaths of Onan and Er are among the few deaths caused by Yahweh that the Torah doesn't describe as being caused via an intermediary, such as plague or the Angel of Death. According to some biblical scholars who contextually read this passage, the description of Onan is an eponymous aetiological myth concerning fluctuations in the constituency of the tribe of Judah, with the death of Onan reflecting the dying out of a clan; Er and Onan are hence viewed as each being representative of a clan, with Onan possibly representing an Edomite clan named Onam, mentioned by an Edomite genealogy in Genesis. The text emphasises the social and legal situation, with Judah explaining what Onan must do and why; the plain reading of the text is that Onan was killed because he refused to follow instructions. Scholars have argued that the secondary purpose of the Tamar narrative, of which the description of Onan is a part, was to either assert the institution of levirate marriage, or present an aetiological myth for its origin; Onan's role in the narrative is thus as the brother abusing his obligations by agreeing to sexual involvement with his dead brother's wife, but refusing to allow her to become pregnant as a result. Emerton regards the evidence for this as inconclusive, though classical rabbinical writers argued that this narrative describes the origin of levirate marriage. However, other early writers focused on the spilling seed, and the sexual act being used for non-procreational purposes; one opinion expressed in the Talmud argues that the death penalty was only imposed because of it. This interpretation was held by several early Christian apologists, Jerome for example arguing: But I wonder why he the heretic Jovinianus set Judah and Tamar before us for an example, unless perchance even harlots give him pleasure; or Onan, who was slain because he grudged his brother seed. Does he imagine that we approve of any sexual intercourse except for the procreation of children? Clement of Alexandria, though he does not make explicit reference to Onan, similarly reflects an early Christian view of the abhorrence of spilling seed: Because of its divine institution for the propagation of man, the seed is not to be vainly ejaculated, nor is it to be damaged, nor is it to be wasted To have coitus other than to procreate children is to do injury to nature Many Christian groups, especially Roman Catholicism, have subsequently cited the Onan narrative as justification for bans on both masturbation and coitus interruptus, and since Medieval times have also used it to justify a prohibition against contraception. However, the Levitical regulations concerning ejaculation, whether as a result of heterosexual intercourse or not, merely describe it as something that brings about ritual impurity; rather than ordering capital punishment, it only insists that the man wash themselves afterwards, implying that masturbation wasn't a major crime." • Briefly, my understanding is that the Bible is silent on this issue, so my current stance is that it's not wrong in and of itself. However, Jesus did speak against lust, and Paul spoke about not doing anything that would upset the faith of other Christians. So, if masturbation occurs without lust, and occurs without upsetting the faith of other Christians around you, I don't see a problem with that.
  • Masturbation is the manifestation of someone's deep desire or lust to have sex. Just because you are not lusting after anyone in particular doesn't mean that you are not lusting. Therefore masturbation is a sin and all sins, regardless of what they are, have the same punishment and the same standing in the eyes of God. There is no better or worse sin. It's like that other person said- 'sin is sin'.
    • Thinker
      Sorry but you are incorrect.
  • I have searched for the subject of masturbation in over 2000 Biblical texts including several versions of the Bible but found no topic on the subject. When I was young my parents and I conversed about the subject of masturbation. This is what I learned. God created the urge in the human race to propagate the Planet and the Universe. Therefore the urge for Sex and Propagation is designed by God to be just overwhelming enough to ensure that the Human race will grow and expand. So we should not be ashamed or afraid of having such strong urges. Now having said that, God, however, has also designed a method in which we humans can take control of those urges by gaining his (Jesus's) assistance in obtaining control over those urges. This is why we as teenagers can control our urges until we get married. Then marriage is designed to allow us to let go of our tight hold on those urges and explore God's given design to populate the universe. The long Orgasm of Sex in Marriage is God's design that we once had in the Garden of Eden. It is precisely because of the fall of Adam that we struggle so much with the ability to control the urges. Sin is nothing more than a separation from God that makes things so difficult in our lives. Before the fall of Adam and Eve we humans could turn on and off the urges at will. Masturbation itself is not a sin. It is the struggle to control it that is. Since Adam and Eve fell from grace with God mankind has been in Sin. So it is impossible, without God, to not Sin. Don't beat yourself up about the overwhelming desire of Masturbation. It is just the memory of what we once had with God before we lost our ability to control it. The thing to focus on here is that with the help of the Holy Spirit we can over come it. And that, within marriage, there is a God given time to succumb to those urges.
    • Thinker
Pretty well said except nowhere in the Bible does it say a couple must be married to have intercourse. Premarital sex is not a sin as long as it it consensual between those participating and does not involve pagan worship. Neither is extra marital sex with permission of both spouses.
  • A man is a creature of lust caused by hormones. If a man isn't married and he does not masturbate he will have a wet dream caused by a build up of seamen the seamen comes out of the body. If a man that is not married masturbates the seamen comes out of the body. A man will lust in his mind during masturbation this is the wrong. Which opens up a whole new can of worms. In our society old men that are poor can not have a young good looking wife. Ugly young people can not have a good looking mate. So for about 75% of the population life is not so great. I have to ask you our bodies are hormone driven so I feel it is not good to put to much on people from the Bible that isn't clear cut on this issue. see this definition. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malakas
  • Master Bation committed a wasteful sin quite major but as he was still a minor he was spared in-car ceration and was instead put on Pro Bation
  • The closest reference so far is in Genesis 38:9-10 where we're told that "he (Onan) spilled it (his seed) on the ground......And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he (God) slew him (Onan)" So beware, sounds pretty serious, huh.

You need to read and understand the whole meaning of what is said. You are spreading an untruth propagated by the church, especially the Roman Catholic Church.
  • I am glad someone asked this question. I need answers because I am a christian and a married woman and have been dealing with this problem since I was a child. A victim of molestation within my family, I noticed early my body had been turned on to something that I could not handle, and masterbation was a way to keep sane and out of the way of "fornication" that my father who is pastor would preach about. I used masterbation to cope with urges that I would have from being made to do things I knew my parents would deem sinful by close relatives. On the outside, I was the model christian and student in school, but on the inside I have been suffering. Now I am an adult and I am tired that even marriage have not cured me from the constant urge to please myself in a way that men have failed. I just typed the question in the url because of the constant struggle to not mastibate. I am female, but It makes sense what was said about Onan and why it displeases God to waste seed that should be for reproduction and replenishment of the earth. He would have rathered have sex than honor his brother. It's almost as if he was lusting after his brother's wife before he died. That was wrong. I confess daily that God gives me control of my emotions and keep me from sin. In every other area of my life, I'm good. I please my husband and am a good wife (so he tells me). I am constantly reaching out to help win people to Christ and am active in the church. I just don't want this one thing to end up destroying my life.
    • Thinker
OH my poor child! First lets look at the word "fornication". Fornication is a Latin made up word because there is no direct word for "pornia". Pornia is the buying and selling of temple goddesses in the city of Corinth in one of the many temples of fertility. Paul was warning the Christian men they were not to go to the temples of fertility for better crops and better animals. This was placing other gods before the Lord God. Masturbation is not a sin and is not lust but a gift from the Lord God. Find and read the book by Darwin Chandler, "The Royal Law of Liberty: Living In Freedom Under Christ's Law Of Love. It will clarify the lies the church has told for so many years. Amazon Books has it in paper or Kindle. I promise you will not be sorry for reading it.
  • I write these thoughts because I just settled this issue within my heart. I have struggled for some time and out of ignorance I continued on in my lustful struggle. I grew tired of rationalizing something that now seems so obvious. I grew tired of situational ethics. I thought in my situation that masterbation was excusable, as do many who masterbate. However, I'm done with it! Thank God! I've settle the question forever! I've got the victory. By the grace of God, and by the aid of the Blessed Holy Spirit I fully intend to abstain from masterbation and anything else God gives me the light on. For I, and ever Christian must walk in the light God has given them. Masterbation is sin! Here is some scriptural defense (1).I Thessalonians 5:22 Abstain from ALL APPEARANCE OF EVIL. A. It sure appears to be evil. (2). I Corinthians 5:15 Know ye not that YOUR BODIES ARE THE MEMBERS OF CHRIST? shall I than take the members of Christ and make them the members of an harlot? GOD FORBID. A. MASTERBATION IS PROSTITUTION OF CHRIST. Every part of our body is considered a member of Christ. This may sound extreme, but when you masterbate you are prostituting the members (the body parts) of Christ himself. B. MASTERBATION IS TEMPLE PROSTITUTION. You are defiling the temple of the Holy Ghost with lustful practices. It is just as grievous as the sins of Hophni and Phineas who engaged in temple prostitution. C. MASTERBATION IS SELF PROSTITUTION. Masterbation is as much self prostitution and harlotry as is premarital and extramarital sex. Masterbation is self sex. God intended all sexual actions to be between one man and one woman(joined by the bond of marriage). He did not intend for the individual to corrupt his or her own body with immoral desires and actions. SOME QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF 1. WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO MASTERBATE IF CHRIST WERE STANDING IN FRONT OF YOU? WOULD YOU HAVE TO ASK HIM TO LEAVE THE ROOM? 2. GOD IS ALWAYS WATCHING YOU AND YOUR ACTION. DOES THAT BOTHER YOU? 3. WOULD YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE MASTERBATING IF GOD WERE VISIBLY IN FRONT OF YOU? 4. DO YOU HAVE THE FAITH TO BELIEVE THAT GOD IS ALWAYS NEAR YOU THOUGH HE IS INVISIBLE? OR DO YOU THINK HE IS TO DISTANT TO CARE. 5. ARE YOUR ACTIONS DRAWING YOU CLOSER TO GOD OR DISTANCING YOU FROM HIM? 6. ARE YOU QUENCHING THE HOLY SPIRIT. I Thessalonians 5:19 Quench not the Spirit. MORE SCRIPTURE: 2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. 2Ti 3:2 For men shall be LOVERS OF THEIR OWN SELVES (ARE YOU LUSTING AFTER YOURSELF AND FULFILLING YOUR OWN DESIRES?), covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection,(NATURAL AFFECTION IS NOT HOMOSEXUAL OR SELF SEXUAL IT IS ONE MAN AND ONE WOMAN JOINED BY THE BOND OF MARRIAGE) trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, LOVERS OF PLEASURE MORE THAN LOVERS OF GOD (DO YOU LOVE THE TEMPORARY PLEASURE OF MASTERBATION MORE THAN THE LASTING PLEASURE OF PRAYER, PRAISE, AND THE PRESENCE OF GOD?) ; 2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness(DO YOU HAVE A SHALLOW CHRISTIAN PROFESSION AND A SECRET LUST THAT YOU ENTERTAIN ,MASTERBATION, ON THE SIDE?), but denying the power thereof: from such turn away (HAVE YOU DENIED GOD THE OPPORTUNITY TO DELIVER YOU FROM THE QUESTION MARKS AND STRESS CONCERNING MASTERBATION? HAVE YOU DENIED HIM THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRANSFORM YOU AND REFINE YOU MAKING YOU MORE LIKE CHRIST? BOTH ARE SINFUL AND WRONG. *ALL SEXUAL ACTIVITY OUTSIDE OF THE BONDS OF MARRIAGE (ONE MAN ONE WOMAN FOR LIFE) IS IMMORAL AND IS THEREFORE SIN. * MASTERBATION IS ONE OF MANY DIVERS LUSTS THAT SATAN WOULD HAVE YOU TO CODDLE AND HOLD ON TO. MASTERBATION IS ONE OF THE MANY DIVERS LUSTS THAT SATAN WOULD LEAD YOU ASTRAY WITH. *MASTERBATION KILLS ONES CHRISTIAN WITNESS AND BREEDS HYPOCRISY. MASTERBATION SLOWLY BUT SURELY ERODES AND DESTROYS ONES SPIRITUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. * MASTERBATION IS SIN AND SIN LEADS TO EVERLASTING TORMENT IN A DEVILS HELL................ * BUT THANK GOD THERE IS DELIVERENCE FOR TODAY! HE DELIVERED ME AND HE CAN DELIVER YOU! JUST ASK HIM WHOLEHEARTEDLY. TURN FROM YOUR WICKED WAYS . HE CAN FORGIVE YOU AND DELIVER YOU FOR GOOD.

Though you mean good you are so misinformed. Read the book I mentioned in the above comment and learn the truth.
  • To the FIRST responder I think your response lacks proper context/use of Scripture. I'm glad the issue is resolved FOR YOU. However, when using Scripture that speak of lust, you automatically equate NATURAL GOD GIVEN DESIRES as lust. That's erroneous. You have YET to prove one equals the other. There's plenty of Scriptures that discusses sex OUTSIDE of marriage and that it's sin. However, to do an accurate application, there's not much that describes what kinds of sex in marriage (hmm), nor any Scripture that SPECIFICALLY deals with masterbation. I believe the temple verses you used deal specifically with sex outside of marriage. Can you PROVE otherwise? Neither of us can prove our position either way, therefore, it works for YOU but isn't an end all answer for everyone. Be VERY CAREFUL taking Scripture that is NOT specifically designed for a topic and applying it like GOSPEL for others to follow. It's very apparent this is how God spoke to you, whippee, I'm glad for you. But to blanket apply those verses to masterbation is out of context and wrong and takes us back to the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (do's and don'ts that shackle and not give freedom - for HIS glory). Now, masterbation is an age old problem. Have you wondered why God did NOT put specific verses about it in the Bible (none that I have found yet)? Did he not know how to describe it? Well, he did well describing other difficult topics. Hmm. Could it be that He's allowing us, as people, to have CHOICES? If I cause another man to stumble, I shouldn't do it. Everything is permissable but not necessarily beneficial (paraphrasing). And to say, "WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO MASTERBATE IF CHRIST WERE STANDING IN FRONT OF YOU?" That's REDICULOUS. Because even as a married person, if you ask that question replacing MASTERBATE with SEX WITH YOUR HUSBAND, the answer is obviously NO as well. I would NOT have sex with my husband if Jesus was standing there. And yes GOD sees sex with my husband as well. About the only valid and appropriate question, all your manipulation or desire to be right aside, is this one. "ARE YOUR ACTIONS DRAWING YOU CLOSER TO GOD OR DISTANCING YOU FROM HIM?" It's a subjective question which receives various answers from different people. Providing it's answered HONESTLY by each person.
    • Thinker
I hope you take time to read my response below as well as others I have written above.
  • Same responder as Aug 9. the more I think about the first responder's response, the more I realize something. It took thought on his part to write the answer, but was THOUGHTLESS to the original question or asker. You failed to realize that this person who asked the original question has natural desires that need a release (some how) and doesn't want to violate the Word of God. What you gave the person was inaccurate and not a good solution to boot. A good answer, that I saw is in this thread: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/64541 Perryman - bravo and very good use of Scripture!
  • Contrary to my well intended friend the word prostitution appears in the bible one time in Leviticus 19:29 However, in answer to your question is masturbation a sin? I can truthfully answer what Paul says in 1 Corinthians 6:12 and 1 Corinthians 10:23 which states “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient (practical or convenient): all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. Masturbation in itself is not a sin because the Saints of God do not Sin and we are under the Blood of Jesus Christ provided to us freely through the sacrifice of the Cross. However, if we pay close attention to what Paul is saying is that we should not be brought under the power of the addiction of the thing we do. When we are addicted to masturbation then we have a problem because we have not applied Self Control, which is a fruit of the Spirit. So the question is are you under the power of Masturbation? Do you see a person you like and lust to have that person so you masturbate? To lust is not a Christ like character, but did you now that Jesus did have urges like any other man? If not then he was not human and the sacrifice of the second Adam, which means Man would not be valid. But our Lord and savior was as much man as he was God. However, Jesus was always walking in the spirit therefore he was able to control is human urges. Masturbation can become addictive, I know because I was addicted to masturbation and was set free of that addiction. This led me to extensively study this topic. I had to masturbate 3 to 4 times a day. I found out that there was nothing wrong with the act it was the power the act had over me. I hope this helps you understand. `
  • where? and what the bible says about masterurbation?
  • it does say that thinking bad thoughts is not a good thing. so if one is masturbating to the image of the girl or boy next door, then in my opinion, that is not a good thought. if one can masturbate to a good image, then it shouldnt be a problem. but if one is masturbating to the image of a person, then our thoughts can affect that person. and that isnt good. if the image is imagined with a non real person, that might be okay. its about bad and good, not about sin. we have a conscience that is supposed to help us understand the difference between bad and good. masturbation isnt wrong. what you do with your mind is the wrong part.
  • disturbia-What happens to your party when that last hour is over? just a thought...
  • scorpion your rock lol.... Give your husband alot of loving. Its a gray area in the bible its apart of you that you can't turn off well there are time but then there are other times. Its not a sin ... this has happened to me the devil puts bad thoughts into my head if I agree with them its evil. However I go hell no devil take back thouse thougths cast them out. And go ahead do whatever I want its not sin its just apart of you. First the devil temps you then he makes you feel guilty. And the goes on and me make you feel weak and dirty for the rest of your life. You don't have to take it the bible says for a lack of self control get marrige shagg down baby. The bible also says something like.. I think in proverbs if a man seeks a wife he seeks a good thing. Ya you need to manage it yes thats good but if you eat a cholocolat bar you not a sinner your human yes get over it. Real sex is not sospost to be like that its about the bond you make realate to each other on a very personal level. You know you need a mate when you got to gota hummm hum. The christain life is suspost to be lived up Jesus said I came so that you can live life to the fulest. He also said celibace is a gift ... if you don't have it don't sweat it.

  • THIS IS so true! scorpion i understand u i feel your pain. at a young age i was molested and didnt know how to cope with these new feelings i had. at a young age i knew i was diffrent frm others, having urges. i became a christian at the age of 9 and after had a few years of peace and love finding god. but when i went to hihg skool everything became brandnew again. i had urges and ended up have sex for the first time since i was molested. i didnt repend my sins instead i left church and the paths of god. but now i understand wat i do is wrong and im taking babysteps bak into god. because we are nothing without him. but i still neeed to fight my urges with masturbation wen i do it i know its bad. i can feel its wrong but i must fight and i will . so scorpian i understand you !!!! i never thought someone had something so simlar to wat happened to me . i thank god i saw ur message.
  • Well, to me, I feel guilty myself for giving my self pleasure. Why I don't know. I am just not sure if its right or not. I like it but What stops me from doing it it my subconscious. I don't like Not do it but, I need to know if its right to do it. I used to be addicted to it, but then I became a Christian and I am no totally sure whether or not its wrong. I have heard its natural from many but my mind is still questioning me.
  • I am waiting until marriage. But it is hard to wait. I'm struggling with the urges. i want to know what it is like. i want that spiritual/emotional/physical/mental connection with someone. i know the bible says that if you cannot resist the urges to marry but i am not ready to get married. nor have i found the one for me. so what am i to do? its getting harder and harder. i dont have anyone to talked to about that kind of stuff. everyone looks at me like im miss perfect. and if i say anything they will tell me that i should know better. i read comments from people about people being dramatic from one way to the other. either im going to hell if i decide to masturbate, or i should do it all the time. i want someone with some common sense and reason. and i do have to say. that when you are molested it does make the urges come soon, or start. i have never had problems with sexual urges until recently when my ex bf took me to isolated areas and would not take me home until i pleasured him. i didnt know what to do at that time. i know it sucked. but i learned from it, and with the information i learned i can help others. and i know that God is trying to help me understand what my friends are going through and not to judge them so much for their habits. and one day i will get through this and be able to help others going through the same thing. but in the mean time, i would deeply appreciate some help.
  • god said its perfectly ok to rub one out- its no problem - do it all day if ya can. word to ur mother.
  • Masturbation is not directly spoken of in the Bible. Judeo-Christian tradition has taught for thousands of years: 1. Single people should be celibate. 2. Married people should be faithful to each other (adultery is wrong). The Catholic Church recognizes the power of sex when it teaches, "Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul." Chastity means the successful integration of sexuality within the person. A chaste person's body and spirit lives in unity and opposes any behavior that would impair that unity. Masturbation is contrary to the human dignity of the person, anyone about whom the person has lustful thoughts, and the dignity of human sexuality. For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 2352 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt3sect2chpt2art6.shtml#2352 With love in Christ.
  • This is a gift and natural. we have such stress and mountains to deal with here. It is simply something to give us pleasure. I saw a movie once, soldiers captured during Viet Nam war. The conditions these guys were living under were hidious. And it went on for I think years. Torture, scarce food, living like dogs in a cage outside in all weather. There was a moment where these two guys were crying and holding eachother. It was that special soldier bond they get. One guy really was cracking just sobbing... His buddy said do it, it will help. And he did and it did. It was a beautiful scene. And horrific all at once. Another thing is it is meant to keep us from being sluts.
  • hi. i really admire your courage to be honest like that. You're exposing that into the light and thats great. The word says there's nothing hidden that wont be exposed... so nice job! better to do it now and take care of it. and good question.. i'm sure many have the same concern. to respond i would like to share some research i did because of my own struggle. I masterbated and becuase i had been pursuing Christ letting him change the way i think, i performed the act of masterbation really without much thought of another person or lusting for them or thinking about another's body parts....and i really liked it, cuz it was like i was turned on by my own body or desire or smthn. afterwords i took a shower and i really didn't feel good about what i did. and being alittle familar with spiritual warefare and the battle of the mind ...i just kept changing my thoughts about "I shouldn't have done that" or "guilt" and i changed them to not feel guilty. but i couldn't justify my actions so i had to find out if it was ok or not..cuz to be honest i wanted to keep doin' it and i didn't feel right about it. like i couldn't picture Jesus doing it, but he made us sexual beings with needs. So. I read the bible alot, but i needed more insight. Maybe you can help me. i read these and it still wasn't as clear as i wanted it but.... Galatians 5:16-18 says But I say, walk by the Spirit, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you would. But if you are led by the Spirit you are not under the law. 1 John 2:15-17 15* Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16* For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17* The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever. The bible says to not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh, but to crucify them with all their affections and lusts. well what are the desires of the flesh? maybe you could tell me? I know it opposes God. then i found 1 cor 10:23,24,31  23"Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is constructive. 24Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others. 31So then, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you may do, do all for the honor and glory of God. So i just recently have realized what i already knew in my heart...there was a reason i had to know the truth. God is merciful. but he is nor respector of men. the reason he forgives us is for Jesus name sake. Jesus deserves the best looking Bride without blemish. He showed us the way "Himself". The Truth about masterbation is found in a person "Jesus". "The Spirit of Truth" Jesus Christ-I am the way the Truth and the Life" no one comes to me unless the Father first draws Him. Ask the Father to draw you to the truth. He'll never fail you. In the name of Jesus i reinforce the victory of the cross over our lives so that we would become pure virgins unto the Lord. Be merciful and help us. and don't look at our sin, but wash us with your word that we would be clean again. Save us from ourselves for this is impossible without you.
  • Not a problem according to the Bible. There is a story about a guy called Onan, who was ordered by God to knock up his brother's wife and refused, "pulling out" at the last minute. God fried him and from this people assumed that "spilling your seed" is evil. Nothing at all about women masturbating, so stop thinking of it as a problem. If God didn't want women masturbating, he wouldn't have placed their clit within such easy reach of the fingers, would he?
  • Yes. I know that it is a sin even though I have struggled with it. This gift was given to us by God for marriage and it should be sacred. I was addicted but I wanted to be free so bad that I just started praying and crying out to God. Sometimes I have to do something I really like to do like listening to a christian song that really touches me or singing. I have messed up some, but not nearly as much and it feels so much better. I just repented when I messed up and it makes you feel so free! It is possible to quit. It's just like any other addiction. God bless you
  • Genesis 38:8 Then Judah said to Onan, "Lie with your brother's wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to produce offspring for your brother." 38:9 But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so whenever he lay with his brother's wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from producing offspring for his brother.38:10 What he did was wicked in the LORD's sight; so he put him to death also. That is the story people use it is not about wanking, He was obviously pulling out early. You can't just take one verse or half of one and use it, you have to know the whole story. Onan's brother was dead so it was his responsibility to take his brother's wife and care of her and have children with her. He was punished for deceiving and lying, not for polishing the knob.
  • It is fornication.Jesus said if you look upon another woman in lust you have comitted adultery in your heart. So by thinking of another woman other than your wife, yes you commit adultery.

  • Listening to all this answers got me really thinking. I came here to find the answer to my question, However, i found the answer in my thoughts. Masturbating is not a Sin. Lust in the other hand is a sin. it is also connected to masturbating since in your mind this particular person your imagining to be giving you fantasy pleasure desires, You are in fact Lusting instead of masturbating. Take Porn For an Example. For instance, It is said in the bible that Stealing is a sin. But if i steal your heart (Metaphor), am i really sinning? What i mean by this is, if masturbation is not a sin, Can i masturbate without lusting? To Masturbate you need a motivation to do it (Turn On). Lust is that switch that you need. Making you have the desires to pleasure yourself. You cannot Masturbate unless you are thinking of that one person who is (In your Mind) Pleasuring you. I'm sad to tell this but, if you live with your husband and your sexual relationship is not going well, I don't think when you masturbate your actually thinking about him. Because if he does the Job right;) you wouldn't have the need to pleasure yourself. I hope someone out there can get my message.
  • Man! Read all those answers really confuses things for me. some where saying it's ok as long as you don't lust after someone. Others said that it's not ok and your suppose to have faith and a true fear of God to control it. I do strongly believe that you are suppose to have crazy faith inorder to please God because it is impossible to live and serve Him with an Honest heart without faith. It gets really hard for me especially since I'm single. I'm trying to learn to be ok with being by myself. I'm still praying that God delivers me of these urges. Satan is trying everything in his power to get me side track from focusing on God. So I just want everyone to keep me in prayer and I'll be doin the same for those of you who truely don't want this thing to control them. -Sis. Ramia-
  • I became a widow 1 1/2 yrs ago. My husband and i loved making love. It was so wonderful to show each other how much we loved each other and it was something only the two of us shared. Now he is gone and I long for him and I have dreamt of him while pleasing myself. I feel very close to him when I do it but then I feel guilty that I was not pleasing to God. I don't do it often maybe once a month but this has bothered me ever since my husband passed away. The love I have for him is still as strong as it always was. Is there any exceptions?????? Thanks for asking thei quesiton it is a very important one.
  • That's the problem. The Bible doesn't say anything. That's what leaves us hanging and wondering. Sure the Bible says a lot about fornication and lust but is masturbation included or excluded from this? The word lust is problematic because in one sense we wouldn't even feed ourselves if there wasn't some kind of desire (lust) to eat. And what about our lust for life itself? We all desire to live. Surely lust must have to do with things prohibited. "Thou shall not covet thy neighbor's wife". Sounds like you are not to desire something that belongs to another. That's why fornication and adultery are wrong. It's presumably ok to lust (desire) your mate. But what if you are true to your mate and yet for some reason you can't have sex and you get depressed, frustrated, etc? What is the pay-off for not masturbating at times like this? You already feel bad and are looking for some relief. To me it is similar to the person who eats too much or too often because she is depressed. Confessing your sin (just in case it is) is what we already do. Don't we? I know I do. We already feel guilty. The answer has to come from two external things: 1. the church- By this I mean the people of God. I think we have these problems in large respect because we are so unconnected in our modern world. We lack community- so we are lonely and depressed and we have all this extra time on our hands alone. It's like putting a child in a room alone for hours on end with a jar of cookies and telling him not to touch it. I pray that all of us who struggle with these things will find community, love, friendship, and people with whom we can confide and still feel loved and accepted. 2. The second external thing is a job, service and ministry. We all need something to do and we all need to serve others. This is love and the Bible tells us that "Love fulfills the law". The more we can spend time loving our neighbor the less time we will have for thinking about how depressed we are and how masturbating will help us feel better. I know that I have this problem much more when I am unemployed and have nothing to do. Just working alone alleviates most of the problem for me. When all these things are going on I often forget all about it and when I do I can overcome it because the thought only happens momentarily.
  • find the verses that talk about lust, lusting in heart and mind as well as aciotns of lust, then the one that says thou shalt not covet anothers wife ....idleness is darkness and satan is darkness....sins of the flesh, spilling, wasting God given gifts....not honoring a family tradition to a brother, that got the other brothers killed..etc. on and on.....all sin the same..fornication,lusting,lying, just as bad as murder..and thoughts are just as sinful as actions...its all there ..everywhere..they just can't SEE because they don't want to....:)justme
  • Everyone is giving of their good opinion, but our own thoughts and will bring death. Here's some scriptures what I found from this link: http://www.geocities.com/johndavidmueller/Masturbation.html Galatians 5:19-21 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry.... and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Peter 2:11 11 Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. James 1:14-15 14 But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. 15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death. 2 Timothy 2:22 22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. Quite simply ask yourself this: Would I masterbate with Jesus or God before me?? Would he be pleased? Does it glorify God? Does it bring me closer to God? Pretty obvious yet!!!!?? Here's my story: I'm a 27 year old male who recently came back to the Lord after a 10 year absence. I have always been sexually active or masterbated on a daily basis. It was purely an addiction, and one of the things I needed to change in my life to prepare for the Kingdon of God. Since accepting Jesus back into my heart, it was easy at first to not masterbate and not be desired to do so; however, over time it became harder and harder to calm the urge. In the first couple weeks of "cleaning house" through deliverance, I broke my bond with the evil spirit of masterbation and releaved that demonic oppression. Many weeks later, I still feel the strong temptation which I know isn't my desire. My desire is to enter into the Kingdon of God; therefore, I need to keep guarding my heart so as to not let it back in sevenfold. I may even need deliverance again to get rid of this monkey on my back that persistantly attacks me because of the strong power I gave it over me. It's going to take some work. If you're unfamiliar with the demonic world, I can sum it up simply by saying they are monkey's on your back with a specific sinful purpose who constantly whisper in your ear and want you to do sinful things; the sinful things that fulfil them when manifested through your life as you are their "home". For any answer like this one, we need to find it in the Word of God, for the Word breathes life and stays consistant.
  • Here is probably the most comprohensive explanation of masterbation and what the Bible says about it; read it for yourself. http://inkaboutit.homestead.com/masturbationnotsinlev1516.html
  • It is easy to learn the correct meaning of the word fornication. The Bible defines it correctly. Compare Number 25:1-9 to 1 Cor 10:8 Paul defines the word fornication for you by refering back to Numbers 25: 1-9 It is clear that fornication is joining in sex worship with a pagan girl to sex worship a pagan feritiy sex god that the pagans worship in both the OT and in the NT. Most everyone has the wrong definition . This is the only correct definition and Paul clearly defines it in 1 Cor 10:8 check out inkaboutit homestead com Masturbation, sex, nudity, sexual enjoyment solo or with a partner is a wonderful gift from God for all people to enjoy freely with no shame and no guilt. Check out inkaboutit . homestead co and libchrist co and read the book, divine sex online for free from inkaboutit is about a retired minister, after 36 years of serve clearly show mastbation is a wonderful gift from God for all to enjoy. Truth set you free of this man made sex shame and guilt trip man lie and satan lies. Enjoy your sexuality don't yet these other people take Bible verse out of context. God is extremely pro-nudity and extremely pro-sex. God's orginal plan was both male and female to have many sex partners in open public with no shame and no guilt. Just like the rest of God designed creation. That is how it will be in heaven. No marriage in heaven but lot of loving sex with many partners with no shame and no guilt. Masturbation is a wonder gift from God for all to enjoy. It is not a sin at all. But if someone is brainwash by lies and believe in his heart that it is a sin from all the lie told to him or her then it is a sin to them because the think it is a sin to them. Rom 14:14. If you study Lev 15:16 you see very clearly that it is not a sin under the Law. check out inkaboutit homestead com for 100"s to pages clearly show in every way that masturbation is not a sin but is the gift of God for all to enjoy.

Glad to see there are others who read inkaboutit. I have been reading this site for 10 to 15 years and have not read all of it. the new address is inkaboutit4u.com and is easy access to all their information,
  • Dont do it if you find it in your heart to be wrong. And if you dont know dont do it. Its better to be wrong and sure to make it to heaven then be wrong and not make it to heaven.
  • I do not believe masterbation is mentioned in the Bible. Fornification yes but not masterbation.
  • Let me put it this way. The fruit of the holy spirit is self control gentlness love joy and patience. Ask yourself. Is this going to be pleasing to God? Or am I pleasing myself. Obviously masterbation is in no means controlling your sexual urges. Letting your thoughts run wild about other people while you masterbate isn't going to be pleasing to God in any way shape or form. God want's you to save your sexualaty for your marriage. Sex outside of marriage is a curse and is an abomonation to God. I have been into masterbation for many years, and has caused nothing but frustation, guilt, confusion and dissapoinmnet. All the fruit the flesh pruduces. I strongly recommend you control yourself before masterbation controls you. It's a trap the devil uses and produces nothing but destruction, not only in yourself but to those you love and care about. And often leads to pornagraphy, which can lead to you becoming a predator. And possible life in prison. So ask yourself another question. Is masterbation worth life in prison? I was going down that path myself, I thought, well there is nothing wrong with it, it's natural. Drugs are natural too, but we all no where that leads. I say, if your married and can control youself, then by all means, masterbation can be pleasurable within your partner, but outside of marriage, I strongly recommend you save it till your marriage. You will be going down a path that you'll regret. God is gracious and faithful to relieve you of your temptation but you have to be willing to walk through the door. He won't force you to do it, He loves you too much for that. Just put your trust in Him and not in masterbation to give you pleasure. His strength is your joy. If you are seeking pleasure in that, then you will only find yourself miserable in the end and your soul longing for a fufilment which only God, Himself can fufil. The reality is, masterbation is a smoke screen to keep you blinded from God and His gifts He has in store for you. His children are precious to Him and he will keep you under His wing until your final breath. Every promise He has ever mad He will keep and charish, because His word is His bond, as He created the earth with His words and He can give you life with His words and thoughts. But you have to trust Him, like a child who trusts his dad.
  • First of all, I would like for these so called "Christians" to stop adding & taking from the original Word of God. People have the tendancy to make the Bible correlate with their own lustful hearts & desires. The Lord said that the Word of God should not be added to, nor taken way from..if you have true faith in Jesus, you would know that he would not allow our minds to be stirred from the truth. God specifically says all throughout the Bible, Colossians,Mathew, Peter..so on, that "lust" is wrong & a sin. If the Lord was "ok" with lustfulness, it wouldnt be in the Bible as a sin. The Bible is all that Christians have today to live by...Secondly, define what you think "lust" means? God created "marriage", as his "holy union" between a man & woman. "Sex" was created for "this sacred union"..(u also can find in the Bible. Anything sexual, that is not of God's intended purpose, is lust. period. you can chop it up anyway..BUT HIS WORD will never change. Being a Christian is about overcoming worldly desires. Thats why the ("Bible" was even created, thus, Jesus's instruction for mankind until his return) It is a "daily" struggle. Read your Bible & ask The Lord himself to give u closure and understanding to this matter, & through your faith, he will.

There is good lust as well as bad lust. Jesus Christ said He lusted for his disciples when they were away from Him. Bad lust is when it become covetousness.Covetousness is taking that which does not belong to you therby depriving the owner of the use of it.
  • Korey, you are one gorgeous lady. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.
  • It really isn't mentioned as such in any canonical version of the Bible. The nearest is Leviticus 15:17-18, which mentions the discharge of semen. But those verses could refer to wet dreams, coitus interruptus, or any method of discharge. I think the message of Leviticus is that pleasure of any sort, especially sexual pleasure, is a sin.
  • Actually the Bible says nothing about masturbation therefore it in itself is not a sin. It is actually one of the pleasures given to all of us by the Lord God for self enjoyment. See the following for more information: http://inkaboutit4u.com/?p=Masturbation_a_Sin_Or_Gift_of_God_to_All
