  • Uh-Oh this is old.... I hope you were able to get the bleeding to stop. I use styptic powder to stop the bleeding. In extremely rare but severe cases you can use super glue until you get the puppy to the vet. Was there enough cord left so that you could tie it off? In the future, clamp it with hemostats, cut or shred (preferably shred) the cord between the hemostats. Leave the clamp on there for a few minutes and then take it off and dab the end of the cord with iodine. (This prevents infections and helps stop bleeding.) If bleeding continues, apply some styptic powder and tie the cord with thread or dental floss. Hope everything turned out okay. What happened?
  • This won't help you now but in the future to stop any bleeding, if you don't have any 'Quick Stop" (which if you have animals, you should have on hand, especially for nail trimming or other things) you can reach for some cornstarch. It usually works to stop mild blood flow from a small wound or source. If the cord is big enough you can tie it with a clean string to keep it from bleeding more and dab the end with the cornstarch.
  • thank you so much the pup is still alive and seems to be doing well she is the runt weighs 5 ozs she did bleed quite abit but it stopped and by the way she is a pappilon pomeranian mix
  • I know this is already taken care of, but for anyone else who references it: Flour is a good clotting agent that's usually around the house, if this happens again just put some flour on it.
  • yes their ears are so tiny at birth arn't they. There are 3 in the litter 2 males and then the female. It will sure be a test not to keep one, we have 4 house dogs and had to put down my 17 year old spitz mix (Sam) took that really hard. The kids had a hard time all they ever knew was having Sam around. The pup is a real fighter she seems to be nursing fine, but I will grab a can of puppy formula from petsmart to be one the safe sida
