i think its the other way around if you have old ps2 games you can still play them on a new ps3 like with xbox and xbox 360

No. Older Technology can't read older games or else there wouldn't be a need to ever expand on the systems.

there isnt enough GPU, or CPU power to drive the menus in a ps3 game. Nor enough memory, or system bandwidth.

Nope. Note that each generation of Playstation uses a new type of drive with a higher data density than the previous one? PSX = CD = 700 MB PS2 = DVD = 4.7GB (later models also handle 8.5GB dual-layer DVDs) PS3 = Blu-Ray = 25GB (50GB for dual-layer) To give you an idea, take a 1.44MB floppy and try reading it on a PC from just after the switch from 5-1/4" to 3-1/2". It will physically fit in the drive, but it won't even be recognized as a disc.

I heard that if you use a usb drive of a certain gb you can infact play ps3 games on your ps2
