I can only give you an uneducated guess, so here it goes. many soft drinks are shipped in a concentrate form, for use in fountain dispensers in many restaurants. another word for concentrate is syrup. the label stating post-mix, means that the concentrate mixes at a simultanious time, with carbonated water. in other words, the concentrate is not shipped with carbonated water, it has to be applied later. a good example is pouring yourself a cup of coca cola at jack in the box. the cashier gives you a cup, you go to the fountain, press the button and woala! you are watching the syrup and carbonated water fill your cup, together.

Why does post-mix soft drink often taste nasty?
-
Maybe it's post their mix process that turned it into syrup.
